Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Boundary Condition for the Electric Field in Earth's Core Models With Conducting Boundaries

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The Earth's core flows are governed by magnetohydrodynamic equations, where boundary conditions determine how the electric field in the liquid core relates to that in the conducting boundaries.

Investigation on the Effects of Grain Boundary on Deformation Behavior of Bicrystalline Pillar by Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Method

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
A dislocation density–grain boundary interaction scheme coupled with the dislocation density-based crystalline plasticity finite element method has been established and used to investigate the deformation behavior of bicrystalline pillars with the same ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Axisymmetric Tornado Simulations with a Semi-Slip Boundary

open access: yesFluids, 2017
The structure of natural tornadoes and simulated analogs are sensitive to the lower boundary condition for friction. Three-dimensional numerical simulations of storms require a choice for turbulence parameterizations and resolution of wind near the lower

Unified slip boundary condition for fluid flows

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2016
Determining the correct matching boundary condition is fundamental to our understanding of several everyday problems. Despite over a century of scientific work, existing velocity boundary conditions are unable to consistently explain and capture the complete physics associated with certain common but complex problems, such as moving contact lines and ...

Flow reversals in turbulent convection with free-slip walls

open access: yes, 2015
We perform numerical simulations of turbulent convection for infinite Prandtl number with free-slip walls, and study the dynamics of flow reversals. We show interesting correlations between the flow reversals and the nonlinear interactions among the ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Analytical Solutions for Unsteady Pipe Flows with Slip Boundary Condition

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2020
In this paper analytical expressions for time-dependent velocity profiles and pressure gradient are obtained for fully-developed laminar flows with given volume flow-rate conditions in circular pipe flows with slip boundary conditions.
