Is Chicory a Viable Feedstuff for Cattle?

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
The aim of the current study was to test the viability of including chicory in cows’ diet. A total of 2250 data were recorded from 150 Romanian Spotted cows related to 6 forage structures: alfalfa (αα), chicory (C), mixed alfalfa and chicory (αC), mixed ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Control of inflammation in experimental bovine pneumonic pasteurellosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
An experimental model of bovine pneumonic pasteurellosis was used to compare the effects on lung mechanical, gas-exchange, biochemical and cellular parameters before and after a nonsteroidal and a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

The Host Defense Proteome of Human and Bovine Milk

open access: yes, 2011
Milk is the single source of nutrients for the newborn mammal. The composition of milk of different mammals has been adapted during evolution of the species to fulfill the needs of the offspring.

In vivo evidence for quasispecies distributions in the bovine respiratory syncytial virus genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We analyzed the genetic evolution of bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) isolate W2-00131, from its isolation in bovine turbinate (BT) cells to its inoculation in calves.

Comparative Analysis of Romanian and Swiss Bovine Populations Using Whole Genome Sequencing and SNP Microarrays

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
The use of SNP microarrays has gained distinguished attention in recent years and the identification of numerous SNPs has proven valuable for genetic evaluation and selection in farm animals.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Bovine tuberculosis in cattle and badgers in localized culling areas

open access: yes, 2009
Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a zoonotic disease that can have serious consequences for cattle farming and, potentially, for public health. In Britain, failure to control bovine TB has been linked to persistent infection of European badger (Meles meles ...

Intractable policy failure: the case of bovine TB and badgers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The failure to eliminate bovine TB from the English and Welsh cattle herd represents a long-term intractable policy failure. Cattle-to-cattle transmission of the disease has been underemphasised in the debate compared with transmission from badgers ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
