Host Cell Neddylation Facilitates Alphaherpesvirus Entry in a Virus-Specific and Cell-Dependent Manner

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) commandeers the host cell proteasome at several steps of its replication cycle, including entry. Here we demonstrate that HSV-2, pseudorabies virus (PRV), and bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) entry are blocked by bortezomib, a

Evidence of alphaherpesvirus infections in Alaskan caribou and reindeer

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2012
Background The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) industry in Alaska began with animals imported from Siberia (Russia) in the 1890's. Cervid herpes virus 2 (CvHV2) is endemic in reindeer in Scandinavia.

Inducing Antigen‐Specific and Functional Immune Responses in Mice Toward Bovine Herpesvirus 1 and Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus by Chimeric Peptides Delivered by Bovine Herpesvirus 4‐Based Vector

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 179, Issue 1, Page 54-71, September 2026.
Bovine Alphaherpesvirus 1 (BoHV‐1) and Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) are major drivers of respiratory disease in cattle. (A) To target both pathogens, two chimeric antigens—membrane‐linked and secreted—combining BoHV‐1 glycoprotein D and BRSV fusion glycoprotein were designed and expressed using recombinant BoHV‐4‐based vectors.

CD49a expression defines a metabolically robust, cytokine‐biased liver NK cell subset in rhesus macaques during lentivirus infection

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 104, Issue 7, Page 656-666, August 2026.
Liver‐resident NK cells (CD49a+ NK cells) in rhesus macaques display distinct activating receptor and metabolic markers enhanced phenotype compared with hepatic NK cell subsets (CD49a−) in the liver. These cells exhibit heightened cytokine polyfunctionality with restrained cytotoxic responses upon mitogen stimulation in comparison with CD49a− NK cell ...

Evaluation of three commercial bovine ELISA kits for detection of antibodies against Alphaherpesviruses in reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus)

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2009
Background The genus Varicellovirus (family Herpesviridae subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae) includes a group of viruses genetically and antigenically related to bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) among which cervid herpesvirus 2 (CvHV-2) can be of importance in ...

Ovine gammaherpesvirus-2 associated manifestations with concomitant polioencephalomalacia, bovine alphaherpesvirus 1-related pneumonia, and caseous lymphadenitis in a sheep

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology
Ovine gammaherpesvirus 2 (OvGHV2), is a member of the Macavirus genus, shares the 15 A antigenic epitope that is common to members of the malignant catarrhal fever virus (MCFV) complex, and induces sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever (SA-MCF) in susceptible mammalian hosts. Sheep, the adapted hosts, rarely show pathological evidence of infection.

Detection of Felis catus Gammaherpesvirus 1 in Cats, but not Dogs, in Türkiye: Prevalence and Risk Factors

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
The current study was carried out to determine prevalence of Felis catus gammaherpesvirus 1 (FcaGHV1) in Turkish domestic cats and dogs and to investigate potential risk factors that are associated with the detection of FcaGHV1. FcaGHV1‐specific DNA was detected in 4 (7.4%, 95% confidence interval 0.4–14.4) of the 54 feline blood samples by TaqMan real‐
