Ovine gammaherpesvirus-2 associated manifestations with concomitant polioencephalomalacia, bovine alphaherpesvirus 1-related pneumonia, and caseous lymphadenitis in a sheep

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology
Ovine gammaherpesvirus 2 (OvGHV2), is a member of the Macavirus genus, shares the 15 A antigenic epitope that is common to members of the malignant catarrhal fever virus (MCFV) complex, and induces sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever (SA-MCF) in susceptible mammalian hosts. Sheep, the adapted hosts, rarely show pathological evidence of infection.

Global transcriptional response of pig brain and lung to natural infection by Pseudorabies virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is an alphaherpesviruses whose native host is pig. PRV infection mainly causes signs of central nervous system disorder in young pigs, and respiratory system diseases in the adult.

Pseudorabies Virus UL41 Hijacks IFN Response via JAK/STAT Pathway While Cellular TRIM21 Blocks it Through K48 Ubiquitination

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Pseudorabies virus (PRV), a significant pathogen that infects various animals, including pigs, encodes multiple proteins that participate in host–pathogen interactions. This study investigates the mechanisms by which PRV evades host immune responses, with a particular focus on the role of the UL41 protein and its interactions with host factors.

Characterization of BoHV-5 field strains circulation and report of transient specific subtype of bovine herpesvirus 5 in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) is a member of the subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae responsible for meningo-encephalitis in young cattle. The first case of bovine meningo-encephalitis associated with a herpesvirus infection was reported in ...

Celastrol Inhibits Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Replication by Promoting ROS‐Mediated Apoptosis

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes acute, highly contagious enteric disease in pigs, leading to severe economic losses, particularly due to high mortality in suckling piglets. Currently, no specific antiviral drugs are available. In this study, we evaluated the anti‐PEDV potential of celastrol, a natural triterpenoid derived from ...

Multi-pathogen serological survey of migratory caribou herds: A snapshot in time.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Pathogens can impact host survival, fecundity, and population dynamics even when no obvious disease is observed. Few baseline data on pathogen prevalence and diversity of caribou are available, which hampers our ability to track changes over time and ...

Infectious keratoconjunctivitis in semi-domesticated Eurasian tundra reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus): microbiological study of clinically affected and unaffected animals with special reference to cervid herpesvirus 2

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2018
Background Infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) is one of the most common ocular diseases in ruminants worldwide. In addition to keratitis and conjunctivitis, animals with IKC can develop uveitis, corneal ulcer, and in severe cases, blindness.
