A Preliminary Field Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Spiramycin and Paromomycin Against Cattle Cryptosporidiosis

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Cryptosporidium is responsible not only for large economic losses in the livestock sector, but also for high mortality in infants and immunocompromised people all over the world. Although multiple treatments have been tested in both animals and humans, no drug has yet been found to be 100% effective.

A multiplex real-time fluorescence-based quantitative PCR assay for calf diarrhea viruses

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionCalf diarrhea is a significant condition that has a strong effect on the cattle industry, resulting in huge economic losses annually. Bovine torovirus (BToV), bovine enterovirus (BEV), bovine norovirus (BNoV), bovine coronavirus (BCoV ...

Assessment of faecal calprotectin in neonatal calf diarrhoea using a human ELISA kit: Associations with faecal score and serum biochemical markers

open access: yesVeterinary Record Open, Volume 13, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract Background Diarrhoea in newborn calves, which occurs in the first month of life and is caused by various pathogens, poses a significant threat to livestock industries. Therefore, timely diagnosis of enteritis in calves can be advantageous. Objective This study aimed to determine the efficacy of faecal calprotectin as a biomarker indicating ...

Structural Proteins of Bovine Coronavirus and Their Intracellular Processing

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1987
The Quebec isolate of bovine coronavirus (BCV) was found to contain four unique major structural proteins. These proteins consisted of the peplomeric protein (gp190/E2, gp100/E2), the nucleocapsid protein (p53/N) and its apparent trimer (p160/N), a family of small matrix glycoproteins (gp26/E1, gp25/E1 and p23/E1) and the putative haemagglutinin (gp124/

Stimuli‐Responsive Lipid‐Based Nanocarriers for Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 9, Issue 11, November 2026.
This manuscript demonstrated, through a scoping review of the literature, that modifying lipid nanocarriers with organic and inorganic excipients is a promising alternative to increase in vitro drug release of antimicrobial compounds under the studied stimulus and significantly enhance in vitro and in vivo antimicrobial activity compared to isolated ...

Temporal regulation of bovine coronavirus RNA synthesis

open access: yesVirus Research, 1988
The structure and synthesis of bovine coronavirus (BCV)-specific intracellular RNA were studied. A genome-size RNA and seven subgenomic RNAs with molecular weights of approximately 3.3 X 10(6), 3.1 X 10(6), 2.6 X 10(6), 1.1 X 10(6), 1.0 X 10(6), 0.8 X 10(6) and 0.6 X 10(6) were detected.

Searching for Novel COVID19 Treatments: Towards Covalent TMPRSS2 Inhibitors

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
We designed, synthesised, and evaluated new guanidine derivatives as potential covalent inhibitors of TMPRSS2, a key protease for SARS‐CoV‐2 entry. Computational studies showed that some compounds have improved binding over nafamostat. However, experimentally none effectively blocked viral entry in cell assays, indicating further optimisation is needed.
