Molecular Characterization of a Variant of Proviral Bovine Leukaemia Virus (BLV)
Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Series B, 1996Southern-blot hybridization and partial sequencing of the pol and env genes were used to characterize BLV-integrated provirus of seropositive cattle from two dairy herds in northern Italy. Comparison of the data obtained with those of previously characterized BLV strains from other geographic areas (Australia, Belgium, Japan and USA) revealed the ...

The expression of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is blocked at the transcriptional level during the so-called latency period. However, when peripheral blood mononuclear cells and B lymphocytes are isolated from BLV-infected animals and incubated in the presence of activating reagents, such as phorbol ester, the expression of BLV is markedly enhanced. Such

Blood dendritic cells in cattle infected with bovine leukemia virus (BLV): isolation and phenotyping
Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2012AbstractDendritic cells (DCs) are most potent antigen presenting cells (APCs) with unique ability to prime effective immune responses. They express higher levels of MHC class II and accesory molecules on their surface, than other professional APCs. The investigations were performed on DCs generated from blood with the use of microbeads magnetically ...

Levels and role of cytokines in bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection.
Leukemia, 1997Bovine leukemia virus belongs to a small subfamily of exogenous retroviruses that includes the human retroviruses HTLV-1, HTLV-II and the simian virus, STLV-1. Like other retroviruses, infection with BLV results in deregulation of the host immune system at both humoral and cellular levels.

Current status of Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) infection in Turkey
1996Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) infection is common in the world. This infection has also been in Turkey since 1942. Between the years of 1991 and 1994, 941 cattle over the age of six months were investigated using commercially prepared kits for anti-BLV antibodies by ELISA in the Bursa Region of Turkey.

Peptide-based bovine leukemia virus (BLV) vaccine that induces BLV-Env specific Th-1 type immunity.
Leukemia, 1997In controlling retrovirus infection and replication, cell-mediated immunity (CMI) is considered to be effective. To develop a synthetic peptide vaccine capable of inducing CMI, mannan-coated liposome encapsulating 20-mer synthetic peptide, spanning the 98-117 amino acids of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) envelope glycoprotein (Env) gp51 was constructed ...
