The cryoaggregation of bovine serum albumin

Cryobiology, 1970
Summary Bovine serum albumin in the native (BSA), reduced (BSA-SH), and combined (BSA-S-NEM) forms was frozen at −5°C. The BSA remained essentially soluble; the BSA-SH and BSA-S-NEM both aggregated nearly completely when allowed to reimbibe water at room temperature but to a smaller degree when allowed to reimbibe just above the freezing point.

Fetal bovine serum alternatives

Nature, 1988
With the current shortage in fetal bovine serum, researchers are turning to a variety of options for cell and tissue culture.

Antigenic Determinants of Bovine Serum Albumin

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2001
Background: Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is one of the most widely studied proteins; its structure is well known and its antigenic characteristics have been described in several papers. The aim of this research was the identification of the BSA antigenic determinants.

Domains in bovine serum amine oxidase

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1988
Analysis of the thermal unfolding of bovine serum amine oxidase by differential scanning calorimetry reveals for the dimeric protein a four domain structure consisting of two sets of domains. Each set contains two domains of similar size. The two smaller domains, in contrast with the larger ones, greatly differ in thermostability.

The heterogeneity of bovine serum albumin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1966
Abstract 1. 1. The different components of native and modified bovine serum albumin have been investigated with respect to differences in composition and structure. It was found that native bovine serum albumin is composed of at least 3 components, and that most bovine serum albumin samples contain 4.

The glycolipids of bovine serum

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1970
Abstract 1. 1. Fractionation of bovine serum lipids on a silicic acid column gave two glycolipid-containing fractions eluted with acetone-methanol 9:1 (v/v) and methanol. 2. 2. The fraction eluted with acetone-methanol contained mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrahexoside ceramides. 3. 3.

Comparison of fetal bovine serum and colostrum-free bovine serum supplements for virus culture

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 1993
Incidence of virus isolation and length of time to cytopathic effect were compared in human diploid fibroblasts by using culture media supplemented with either fetal bovine serum or a less expensive alternative, colostrum-free bovine serum. The two systems were equivalent for diagnosis of 386 viral isolates.

Influence of Bovine Serum Lipids and Fetal Bovine Serum on the Expression of Cell Surface Markers in Cultured Bovine Preadipocytes

Cells Tissues Organs, 2017
To establish the influence of fetal bovine serum (FBS) and bovine serum lipids (BSL) on cell differentiation marker expression, bovine adipose-derived stem cells from subcutaneous tissue were incubated for 14 days in 4 types of differentiation media containing 10% FBS and 10 µL/mL BSL (TRT-1), no FBS and 10 µL/mL of BSL (TRT-2), 10% FBS and no BSL (TRT-

The effects of bovine serum albumin, bovine uterine fluid, and heat-treated bovine serum on mouse embryo development

Theriogenology, 1985
Two-cell mouse embryos were cultured in Whitten's medium with one of three supplements: bovine serum albumin (WM + BSA), heat-treated bovine serum (WM + HTBS) or bovine uterine fluid (WM + BUF). Protein concentrations for cultures of WM + BSA were 50.2, 100.5, 251.2, 502.5, and 1005.0 mug/ml and for WM + HTBS were 70.4, 105.1, 269.0, 524.5 and 1193.9 ...

Raman studies of bovine serum albumin

Biopolymers, 1976
AbstractThe Raman Spectra of bovine serum albumin have been obtained in the solute state, in alkaline and acidic solutions, and in the gel. The reversible denaturations of bovine serum albumin solutions by heat, acid's, and alkali were studied and a new mechanism for heat denaturation has been proposed based on a continuous unfolding of the α‐helices.
