A General Model for the Permeability of Magma Mush

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract Percolation through magma mush is a key transport mechanism for melts in the crust and is influenced by the permeability of the crystal framework. Existing models for mush permeability do not account for the range of microstructures that can evolve as mushes crystallize or compact to low melt fractions.

The Formulation and Justification of Mathematical Definitions Illustrated By Deterministic Chaos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The general theme of this article is the actual practice of how definitions are justified and formulated in mathematics. The theoretical insights of this article are based on a case study of topological definitions of chaos.

Schmidt Games, Nonuniform Hyperbolicity, and Topological Entropy

open access: yes, 2022
In this work we accomplish several goals. First, we show how a geometric game introduced by Schmidt can be used to estimate various notions of the size of some interesting sets in dynamical systems.

Recent advances in the structure, function and regulation of the volume‐regulated anion channels and their role in immunity

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 15, Page 4255-4291, 1 August 2025.
Abstract figure legend The volume‐regulated anion channel (VRAC), composed of leucine‐rich repeat‐containing 8 (LRRC8) proteins, serves both canonical and non‐canonical functions in vertebrate cells. The canonical function of this channel relates to its original description, which is homeostatic regulation of cell volume in response to hypotonic ...

Recent Advances in Machine Learning‐Assisted Multiscale Design of Energy Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 9, March 4, 2025.
This review highlights recent advances in machine learning (ML)‐assisted multiscale design of energy materials, currently achievable through generative structure prediction, the discovery of complex atomic structure–property relationships, accelerated prediction of diverse material and interface properties, deeper insights into microstructure effects ...

Uniqueness of equilibrium measures for countable Markov shifts and multidimensional piecewise expanding maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We prove that potentials with summable variations on topologically transitive countable Markov shifts have at most one equilibrium measure.

Volume entropy for surface groups via Bowen-Series like maps

open access: yes, 2009
We define a Bowen-Series like map for every geometric presentation of a co-compact surface group and we prove that the volume entropy of the presentation is the topological entropy of this particular (circle) map.

Entropy for group endomorphisms and homogeneous spaces

open access: yes, 1971
Topological entropy h d ( T ) {h_d}(T) is defined for a uniformly continuous map on a metric space.

Analysis of a scenario for chaotic quantal slowing down of inspiration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
On exposure to opiates, preparations from rat brain stems have been observed to continue to produce regular expiratory signals, but to fail to produce some inspiratory signals.
