Innovations in brachytherapy

open access: yesTaiwan Journal of Ophthalmology
Abstract: Plaque brachytherapy plays an essential role in the management of intraocular tumors, allowing localized treatment while minimizing damage to surrounding structures. Since the earliest reports of sutured radon seeds used in glioma treatment in the 1920s, plaque brachytherapy in the field of ocular oncology has continued to expand ...

Flexible Cervical Photodynamic Therapy Device

open access: yesTranslational Biophotonics, EarlyView.
This paper aims to design a flexible photodynamic therapy device for the cervix and cervical vault, using an LED array, light guide, and flexible trumpet‐shaped homogenizer. Simulations and tests show output irradiance up to 98 mW/cm2 with < 14.2% variation, offering a low‐cost solution for cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.

Brachytherapy

open access: yesActa clinica Croatica, 1998
Brachytherapy is the oldest radiotherapeutic modality and the first non- surgical oncologic therapy. It can be used in the treatment of a great variety of tumors. The major task of the treatment is to deliver cancerocidal doses of radiation to small volumes of tumor tissue, whilst producing minimal normal tissue toxicity.

The Demographics and Outcomes of Women With Stage II Endometrial Cancer Diagnosed in Australia 2005–2007

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Stage II endometrial cancer comprises 5% to 10% of cases and is pathologically diverse. Retrospective data guides recommendations which suggest surgical staging with adjuvant therapy, but the role of radical surgery and lymphadenectomy is uncertain, due to conflicting outcomes.

Use of ultrasound in image-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy: enumerations and arguments

open access: yesJournal of Contemporary Brachytherapy, 2017
Inherently, brachytherapy is the most conformal radiotherapeutic technique. As an aid to brachytherapy, ultrasonography (USG) serves as a portable, inexpensive, and simple to use method allowing for accurate, reproducible, and adaptive treatments.

Estimating uveal melanoma volume with ellipsoid tumour models

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Ellipsoid tumour models are used to approximate the tumour volume of uveal melanomas, as the conventionally used ultrasound does not provide a three‐dimensional visualization of the tumour. However, these models are a simplification of the actual tumour geometry.
