MEMS‐Based Magnetoelectric Antennas for Wireless Power Transmission in Brain‐Implantable Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetoelectric (ME) antennas allow the minimization of the invasiveness of brain implantable devices, via powering wirelessly systems able to actuate neural tissue. In order to achieve the necessary power efficiency transmission, the choice of the materials and the system assembly is vital.

Exciton-polaritons in Bragg gratings

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2010
We study the strong coupling between photons and bulk excitons in a one-dimensional Bragg grating. The dispersion of the resulting Bragg-polariton states resembles the dispersion of quantum-well microcavity polaritons. We report on a parametric scattering process at two "magic frequencies" occurring due to the strong excitonic nonlinearity.

Development of Laterally Graded X‐Ray Multilayer Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of laterally graded X‐ray multilayer optics with both constant and variable lateral gradients. By precisely controlling substrate speed profiles and mask design, these multilayers achieve highly accurate lateral gradients and excellent sagittal thickness uniformity, making them ideal for spectroscopy application at ...

Temperature compensated microfiber Bragg gratings

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
In this paper, temperature compensated microfiber Bragg grating (mFBG) is realized by use of a liquid with a negative thermo-optic coefficient. The effects of grating elongation and the index change of silica glass are compensated by refractive index change of the liquid through evanescent-field interaction.

Electro-optical tunable waveguide embedded multiscan Bragg gratings in lithium niobate by direct femtosecond laser writing.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
optical tunable Bragg gratings in lithium niobate fabricated by direct femtosecond laser writing. The hybrid design that consists of a circular type-II waveguide and a multiscan type-I Bragg grating exhibits low loss ordinary and extraordinary polarized ...

Advances in Safe, Flexible, and Stretchable Batteries for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Unlike previous reviews centered on component‐based deformability, this work highlights safety‐driven design strategies for flexible and stretchable batteries. By integrating material‐level engineering, geometry‐controlled structures, biocompatibility, and self‐protection mechanisms, it establishes a unified framework that connects mechanical ...

Planar micromachined glass cantilevers utilising integrated Bragg Fabry-Perot cavities

open access: yes, 2010
Here we demonstrate a glass cantilever based on a unique micromachining and etching approach, combined with UV written Bragg gratings. We shall also discuss the increase in sensitivity by using two Bragg gratings to form Fabry-Pérot cavity.

MEMS Bragg grating force sensor

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We present modeling, design, fabrication and characterization of a new type of all-optical frequency modulated MEMS force sensor based on a mechanically amplified double clamped waveguide beam structure with integrated Bragg grating. The sensor is ideally suited for force measurements in harsh environments and for remote and distributed sensing and has

Fiber Bragg Gratings with Micro‐Engineered Temperature Coefficients

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are intrinsically responsive to temperature and strain simultaneously. In this research, low‐loss FBGs with micro‐engineered temperature coefficients are fabricated, utilizing refractive index liquid‐filled microchannels in the cladding.

Double grating formation in anisotropic photorefractive crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Double gratings form in anisotropic photorefractive crystals when two plane waves intersecting inside the crystal have both extraordinary and ordinary wave components.
