Nonlinear switching in fibre Bragg gratings
We report on our recent experiments on nonlinear switching in fibre Bragg gratings. Using an all-fibre source we show an increase in transmission of a FBG from 4% to 40% at high powers. This switching is associated with the formation of gap solitons inside the grating.

Recent Advances in Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Integrated Photonics
This review systematically surveys recent advances in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) within integrated photonics. It begins by elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of stimulated coupling between photons and acoustic phonons in nanoscale waveguides, enhanced by the photoelastic and moving boundary effects.

Planar micromachined glass cantilevers utilising integrated Bragg Fabry-Perot cavities
Here we demonstrate a glass cantilever based on a unique micromachining and etching approach, combined with UV written Bragg gratings. We shall also discuss the increase in sensitivity by using two Bragg gratings to form Fabry-Pérot cavity.
