Heart‐Specific Spinal and Vagal Afferents: Transcriptomic Signatures and Optogenetically Modulated Functional Coupling With Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Selective purification of heart‐specific spinal and vagal sensory neurons by retrograde labeling and FACS purification showed enhanced spontaneous, optogenetic, and chemically stimulated Ca2+ activity. Transcriptomic profiling identified distinct ion channel and GPCR signatures in heart‐specific sensory neurons.

Lung Pericytes: Molecular Mechanisms, Signaling Pathways, and Roles in Pulmonary Diseases

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Central role of pericytes across major pulmonary diseases. Conceptual wheel diagram illustrating the central role of lung pericytes across diverse pulmonary disease states. A pericyte positioned at the center expresses canonical markers, including PDGFRβ, CD146, and NG2, and connects radially to five major disease contexts.

Natural History of Chronic Kidney Disease in Sickle Cell Disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 101, Issue 7, Page 1456-1477, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Kidney complications, referred to as nephropathy, develop early in sickle cell disease (SCD). In addition to its known morbidity, abundant data show that chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an increased mortality risk in SCD. Increasing evidence suggests that the natural history of SCD nephropathy is progressive. Initial glomerular

An Asymptomatic Case of Type B Aortic Dissection Developing Type A Dissection During Interfacility Transfer: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
Total arch replacement using a frozen elephant trunk for retrograde type A aortic dissection was effective in excising the intimal tear located in the proximal descending aorta. ABSTRACT During the transfer from a hospital to a tertiary hospital, patients with acute aortic dissection can deteriorate due to aortic rupture or extension of the dissection.
