In brake pad application, natural fiber composites are used to reduce the toxic and harmful effects caused by the asbestos-based brake pads. Because it leads to respiratory problem and lung cancer. In this, natural fiber properties are used to boost the mechanical properties towards the replacement for asbestos brake pad.

Thermal Characterisation of Brake Pads
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2001The chemical-physical decomposition processes that occur in a brake pad heated to 1000°C have been studied. This temperature can be reached when a brake pad is applied. Thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis were used in combination with evolved gas analysis, and image analysis using a scanning electron microscope.
