Preparation and properties of multi-branched poly(D-lactide) derived from polyglycidol and its stereocomplex blends

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2014
Multi-branched poly(D-lactide)s (mbPDLAs) with various structures are synthesized via ring-opening polymerization by using polyglycidol (PG) macro-initiators.

Toward an understanding of fibrin branching structure [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2010
The blood clotting enzyme thrombin converts fibrinogen molecules into fibrin monomers which polymerize to form a fibrous three-dimensional gel. The concentration of thrombin affects the architecture of the resulting gel, in particular, a higher concentration of thrombin produces a gel with more branch points per unit volume and with shorter fiber ...

Asymmetric Flow in Symmetric Branched Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate the fluid flow through a cascade of bifurcations by direct simulation of the 2D Navier-Stokes equations. We show that, for a fully symmetric tree with n generations (n = 3), the flow distribution becomes significantly heterogeneous at an ...

Fluid confinement within a branched polymer structure enhances tribological performance of a poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine)-surface-modified contact lens

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
The poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC)-modified, silicone hydrogel, contact lens (CL) material lehfilcon A has previously been demonstrated to have a lubricious, antifouling and ultra-soft surface.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Quantifying spatial position in a branched structure in immunostained mouse tissue sections

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2021
Summary: We have developed a protocol to quantify the position of a cell in a branched structure based on two-dimensional microscopy images of tissue sections. Biological branched structures include organs such as the lungs, kidneys, and pancreas.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
