The Library of Parliament’s Competency-Based New-Librarian Development Program

open access: yesPartnership: The Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research, 2023
Employee orientation and development are essential organizational processes. This paper examines a competency-based new-librarian development program in a legislative library setting, emphasizing program redesign and continuous improvement.

Eigenvalues in Spectral Gaps of a Perturbed Periodic Manifold

open access: yes, 2001
We consider a non-compact Riemannian periodic manifold such that the corresponding Laplacian has a spectral gap. By continuously perturbing the periodic metric locally we can prove the existence of eigenvalues in a gap.

Birds of a feather or by note? Ideological nationalization of local electoral manifestos in Belgium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Until now, scholars trying to unravel the phenomenon of nationalization have seldom considered the local policy layer or the ideological dimension as their main subject.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Branches over Ripples: A Waterside Journal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Branches Over Ripples: A Waterside Journal is a fifty-entry plein-air writing project drafted between April 2013 and October 2014 by various bodies of water—rivers, brooks, lakes, bays, marshes, waterfalls, a vernal pond, a Japanese koi pond. Most of the

Number of branches in diffusion-limited aggregates: The skeleton

open access: yes, 1995
We develop the skeleton algorithm to define the number of main branches $N_b$ of diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) clusters. The skeleton algorithm provides a systematic way to remove dangling side branches of the DLA cluster and has successfully been ...

Branched Quantization

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
We propose a method for quantization of Lagrangians for which the Hamiltonian, as a function of momentum, is a branched function with cusps. Appropriate boundary conditions, which we identify, insure unitary time evolution. In special cases a dual (canonical) transformation maps the problem into a problem of quantum mechanics on singular spatial ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Collective Josephson vortex dynamics in a finite number of intrinsic Josephson junctions

open access: yes, 2006
We report the experimental confirmation of the collective transverse plasma modes excited by the Josephson vortex lattice in stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions in Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+x}$ single crystals.

Branch groups

open access: yes, 2003
This chapter discusses the abstract branch groups. There are two new approaches to the definition of a branch group. The first one is purely algebraic, defining branch groups as groups whose lattice of subnormal subgroups is similar to the structure of a spherically homogeneous rooted tree. The second one is based on a geometric point of view according
