Modelling the kinetics of aggregate breakage using improved breakage kernel
An improved breakage kernel was developed to describe the kinetics of aggregate breakage induced by fluid shear. The model includes the effects of both the internal bonding forces of an aggregate and the fluid shear stress exerting on the aggregate. The ratio of the two opposite forces regulates the probability of the aggregate breakage.

On the origin of non-linear breakage kinetics in dry milling
Powder Technology, 2015Abstract While population balance models (PBMs) have described the impact of mechanical interparticle interactions on the specific breakage rate in dry milling processes through a phenomenological effectiveness factor, such models lack particle-scale information and thus a mechanistic basis.

Kinetics of Drop Breakage in Stirred Vessels under Turbulent Conditions
Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 2005The emulsification of dodecane oil was studied in a standard stirred vessel filled with distilled water. The in situ size distribution of the drops was measured at certain time intervals by using a particle size analyzer while stirring. The results showed that an increase in the stirring time and stirring rate resulted in a decrease in the mean drop ...

Insight into first-order breakage kinetics using a particle-scale breakage rate constant
Chemical Engineering Science, 2014Abstract This study formulates a particle-scale breakage rate constant of the linear time-variant population balance model (PBM) for batch dry-milling. The breakage rate constant separates material properties from the milling environment which is defined by the impact energy distribution obtained by the discrete element method (DEM).

Aggregation and breakage kinetics of fresh cement paste
Cement and Concrete Research, 2013Abstract The influence of shear-induced forces on the microstructure of fresh cement pastes was studied. Aggregation and breakage kinetics of the paste matrix are highly influenced by the shear history. It was found that the kinetics of re-aggregation is relatively slow, and time scale for recovery is longer than the time needed for breakdown.

BREAKAGE KINETICS USING MULTI-PASS GRINDING
Particulate Science and Technology, 1986ABSTRACT To understand the mechanism of material breakage in a mill, it is important to first study the breakage kinetics. This is often done by experimental methods which Involve batch grinding a size fraction of the material and measuring the amount of the original size fraction remaining at various grind times. If the mill can not be used as a batch
