Are Breast Density and Bone Mineral Density Independent Risk Factors for Breast Cancer? [PDF]

open access: yesJNCI Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 2005
Mammographic breast density and bone mineral density (BMD) are markers of cumulative exposure to estrogen. Previous studies have suggested that women with high mammographic breast density or high BMD are at increased risk of breast cancer. We determined whether mammographic breast density and BMD of the hip and spine are correlated and independently ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Opportunistic retrospective assessment of HUAC, bone density, SFT and breast density on CT images and relationship with severity of COVID-19

open access: yesJournal of Mind and Medical Sciences, 2023
Aim. To evaluate mean Hounsfield unit calculation (HUAC), bone density, subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), breast density (constitutional imaging biomarkers) and age in symptomatic patients with COVID-19, to assess their correlation with pneumonia ...

Generalized breast density metrics

open access: yesPhysics in Medicine & Biology, 2018
Mammograms represent data that can inform future risk of breast cancer. Data from two case-control study populations were analyzed. Population 1 included women (N  =  180 age matched case-control pairs) with mammograms acquired with one indirect x-ray conversion mammography unit.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pathological macroscopic evaluation of breast density versus mammographic breast density in breast cancer conserving surgery

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology: X, 2023
Correlation between imaging and anatomopathological breast density has been superficially explored and is heterogeneous in current medical literature. It is possible that mammographic and pathological findings are divergent. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between breast density classified by mammography and breast density of ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Fully Automated Breast Density Segmentation and Classification Using Deep Learning

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2020
Breast density estimation with visual evaluation is still challenging due to low contrast and significant fluctuations in the mammograms’ fatty tissue background.

Mammographic breast density and breast cancer risk: Evaluation using volumetric breast density software

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics, 2020
The study aimed to assess breast density as a risk factor for breast malignancy using automated volumetric breast density software and to study the relationship of breast density with tumor histopathological characteristics. One hundred and thirty-four women with unilateral core biopsy-proven breast cancer were taken in the "case group." Two hundred and
