Discovery of an Adaptive Neuroimmune Response Driving Itch and Fast Tick Removal with Implications for Preventing Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Itch‐induced tick removal (IITR): An acquired neuroimmune mechanism, itch‐induced tick removal, develops after repeated tick exposure, mobilizing T cells and macrophages at the tick bite site to trigger a rapid scratching response that facilitates timely tick removal within a critical window that precedes the transmission of many tick‐borne pathogens ...

Investigation of Wall Effect on Packing Structures and Purge Gas Flow Characteristics in Pebble Beds for Fusion Blanket by Combining Discrete Element Method and Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In a tritium-breeding blanket of a fusion reaction, helium, used as a tritium-purging gas, will purge the tritium breeder pebble beds to extract the tritium in blanket. The purge gas flow characteristics will affect the tritium extraction efficiency. The

Analysis of the Gas Core Actinide Transmutation Reactor (GCATR) [PDF]

open access: yes
Design power plant studies were carried out for two applications of the plasma core reactor: (1) As a breeder reactor, (2) As a reactor able to transmute actinides effectively.

Coordination of Cyanobacterial Nitrate Assimilation and Photosynthesis by a Novel PsbO‐Interacting Protein PirN

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PirN was identified as a previously uncharacterized PsbO‐interacting protein specifically induced in nitrate‐grown cyanobacteria. Loss of PirN leads to coordinated downregulation of PsbO and the nitrate reductase NarB, causing decreased PSII activity and impaired growth under nitrate conditions. Complementation with either PsbO or NarB largely restores

Investigating the synthesis, reaction pathways, melting points and air sensitivity of Octalithium ceramics, Li8MO6, with M = Sn, Zr, Pb, and Ce

open access: yesOpen Ceramics
Octalithium ceramics (Li8MO6, M = Zr, Pb, Ce, Sn) are highly lithium dense compounds that have been modelled to offer significantly higher tritium breeding ratios (TBRs) compared to the current candidate breeder materials [1].

ON THE CHEMISTRY OF THERMONUCLEAR REACTOR BREEDER BLANKETS

open access: yes, 1958
In all likelihood, a nuclear power economy based on D-T thermonuclear reactors would require efficient breeding of tritium in blankets around such machines. Some of the chemical aspects of tritium breeder blankets are discussed by application of the principle of electroneutrality.

A Functionally Conserved Enhancer is Critical for PGC1A Expression and Thermogenesis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionarily conserved enhancer controls PGC1A expression and thermogenic activation in brown adipose tissue. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify two BAT‐specific enhancers, with PGC1A‐En1 functioning as the dominant regulatory element that maintains thermogenic capacity across species.

The Transcription Factor FgSge1 Harnesses the SAGA Complex to Activate Mycotoxin Biosynthesis and Fungal Virulence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the molecular mechanism by which the transcription factor FgSge1 regulates mycotoxin biosynthesis and virulence in Fusarium graminearum. FgSge1 binds to the TAARGTTT cis‐element, enabling self‐activation. It recruits the SAGA complex, promotes histone acetylation, and facilitates jet‐like chromatin remodeling, thereby activating ...
