Magnetohydrodynamic flow and heat transfer around a heated cylinder of arbitrary conductivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The interaction of the liquid metal with the plasma confinement magnetic field constitutes a challenge for the design of fusion reactor blankets, due to the arise of MHD effects: increased pressure drops, heat transfer suppression, etc. To overcome these

Parametric study of density wave instability in parallel channels of a water-cooled blanket in a fusion reactor

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
In fusion reactors, many blanket concepts are designed with water as a coolant to transfer high-density heat from the fusion reaction out of the reactor core.

European DEMO BOT solid breeder blanket

open access: yes, 1994
The BOT (Breeder Outside Tube) Solid Breeder Blanket for a fusion DEMO reactor is presented. This is one of the four blanket concepts under development in the frame of the European fusion technology program with the aim to select in 1995 the two most promising ones for further development.

Boiling points of liquid breeders for fusion blankets

open access: yesBoiling points of liquid breeders for fusion blankets, 2013
The liquid metals lithium (Li), lead–lithium alloy (Pb–Li), and tin–lithium alloy (Sn–Li) are candidates to be the liquid breeders in fusion blanket systems. Some important properties of these liquid breeders, such as thermodynamics properties, neutronic properties and compatibility with structural materials, have been studied.

A Thermal Discrete Element Analysis of EU Solid Breeder Blanket subjected to Neutron Irradiation

open access: yes, 2014
Due to neutron irradiation, solid breeder blankets are subjected to complex thermo-mechanical conditions. Within one breeder unit, the ceramic breeder bed is composed of spherical-shaped lithium orthosilicate pebbles, and as a type of granular material ...

Converting energy from fusion into useful forms

open access: yes, 2013
If fusion power reactors are to be feasible, it will still be necessary to convert the energy of the nuclear reaction into usable form. The heat produced will be removed from the reactor core by a primary coolant, which might be water, helium, molten ...

Development of a RELAP5/MOD3.3 Module for MHD Pressure Drop Analysis in Liquid Metals Loops: Verification and Validation

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) phenomena, due to the interaction between a magnetic field and a moving electro-conductive fluid, are crucial for the design of magnetic-confinement fusion reactors and, specifically, for the design of the breeding blanket ...

New simulations to qualify eutectic lithium-lead as breeder material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Pb17Li is today a reference breeder material in diverse fusion R&D programs worldwide. One of the main issues is the problem of liquid metals breeder blanket behavior.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
