Briaexcavatolide W, a New Diterpenoid from Briareum excavatum
HETEROCYCLES, 2004A new briarane-type diteipenoid, briaexcavatolide W (1), has been isolated from the gorgonian coral Briareum excavatum. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Briarane and asbestinane diterpenes from Briareum asbestinum
Tetrahedron, 1994Abstract Six new diterpenes, (1–3 and 5–7), were isolated from Briareum asbestinum collected off the coast of Tobago, West Indies. Their structures were determined by a combination of 2D NMR experiments.

New hydroperoxybriarane diterpenoids from the octocoral Briareum violaceum
Tetrahedron, 2019Abstract A known briarane, brianthein W (1), along with four new hydroperoxybriaranes, briaviolides R–U (2–5), have been obtained from the octocoral Briareum violaceum. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined by X-ray analysis for the first time and the structures of briaranes 2–5 were established by spectroscopic methods.

Vegetative reproduction in the octocoral Briareum asbestinum (Pallas)
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1983Abstract Briareum asbestinum (Pallas), a common octocoral of Caribbean reefs, produces runner-like branches which are capable of attaching to the substratum and establishing new colonies. The subsequent death of the intervening runner leaves groups of genetically identical but physiologically distinct colonies.
