Excavatolides U−Z, New Briarane Diterpenes from the Gorgonian Briareum excavatum
A recent study of the EtOAc extract of the gorgonian Briareum excavatum afforded six new diterpenes of the briarane skeleton, excavatolides U-Z (1-6). The structures and relative stereochemistry of metabolites 1-6 were assigned on the basis of NMR studies and chemical methods.

Excavatolides F−M, New Briarane Diterpenes from the Gorgonian Briareum excavatum
Eight new briarane-type diterpenes, excavatolides F-M (1-8), have been isolated from the gorgonian Briareum excavatum. The structures and relative stereochemistry of these compounds were established by spectral analysis and chemical methods. The cytotoxicity of these compounds toward various cancer cell lines has also been determined.

The chemistry of Briareum excavatum, a Formosan gorgonian coral, was investigated. This study has led to the isolation of five novel marine natural products, excavatolides A-E (1-5), together with brianolide (6). The structures of the above compounds were established by spectral and chemical methods. The relative configuration of excavatolide B (2) was

Briarenols O and P: Novel briaranes from a cultured octocoral Briareum excavatum (Briareidae)
Abstract Chemical examination of Briareum excavatum, collected in the waters of Taiwan, led to the isolation of four briarane diterpenoids, including three known compounds, briarenol G (1), briaviolides Y (2), and Z (3), as well as a new metabolite, briarenol L (4).

Four new polyoxygenated briarane-type diterpenoids, briaexcavatolides O-R (1-4), have been isolated from a gorgonian octocoral Briareum excavatum. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic and chemical methods. Metabolites 1-3 were found to contain oxygenated substituents at C-2, C-3, and C-4, and the relative configurations were assigned as

Briaexcavatins G and H, Two New Briaranes from the Octocoral Briareum excavatum
Abstract Two new briarane-related diterpenoids, designated as briaexcavatins G (1) and H (2), were isolated from the octocoral Briareum excavatum, collected off southern Taiwan coast. The structures, including the absolute stereochemistry of these two new metabolites, were established by spectroscopy and chemical conversion.

Abstract Two new 3,8-cyclized cembranoids, briarenols O (1) and P (2), featuring with briarane carbon skeleton have been isolated from a cultured octocoral Briareum excavatum. The structures of 1 and 2 were established by spectroscopic methods and 1 was found to be a rare 2-ketobriarane.
