Our synthetic endeavor toward the total synthesis of the reported unprecedented tricyclic skeleton of the sesquiterpene pestalustaine A allowed us to perform divergent cyclizations of a bicyclo[4.4.1]undec‐3‐ene into complex tricyclic architectures and to revise the structure of the natural product.

Remapping the Synthetic Landscape of α‐Tertiary Alkylamines via Dual‐Functional Catechol
A three‐component assembly strategy has been developed for the modular synthesis of hindered α‐tertiary aliphatic amines from readily available precursors through unlocking the dual role of catechol. The practicality of this methodology has been demonstrated in over 90 examples, including compounds that are otherwise difficult to access, along with ...

An investigation of naphthalenediimides as central building blocks in model compounds for scanning tunneling microscope induced light emission experiments and förster resonance energy transfer studies [PDF]
Scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) is a powerful technique to observe surfaces at the atomic level. The resolution of this STM technique is good enough to study the electronic properties of single molecules adsorbed onto metallic substrates.

Fluoro-bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes [PDF]
After more than 20 years of trials, a practical scalable approach to fluoro-bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (19F-BCPs) has been developed. Physico-chemical properties of fluoro-bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes have been studied, and the core was incorporated into the ...

Enantioselective photocatalytic synthesis of bicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes as orthodisubstituted benzene bioisosteres with improved biological activity [PDF]
1,5-Disubstituted bicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes are bridged scaffolds with well-defined exit vectors that are becoming increasingly popular building blocks in medicinal chemistry since they are saturated bioisosteres of orthosubstituted phenyl rings.

An NHC‐Coordinated Silicon/Sulfur Analogue of an Acyl Carbene
An NHC complex of an Si/S analogue of an acyl carbene is synthesized by the reaction of a disilyne with a cyclic thiourea. The observed Si2S three‐membered ring with unsymmetrical Si─S distances and a Si─Si single bond is consistent with intramolecular coordination of the silathioacyl sulfur to the silylene center.
