Evolution of the brightest cluster galaxies: the influence of morphology, stellar mass and environment [PDF]
Using a sample of 425 nearby brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) from von der Linden et al., we study the relationship between their internal properties (stellar masses, structural parameters and morphologies) and their environment.

Fundamental parameters of brightest cluster galaxies
Photometry and spectroscopy of a sample of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) are presented, and the relationships between scale length, surface brightness, velocity dispersion, and line strength are determined and compared with the relations determined for lower luminosity ellipticals (LLEs).

Abstract A new daily composite of the solar flare index (SFI) and the hemispherically‐resolved versions (hSFI) are presented for 1937 to 2024. The data set confirms that the northern hemisphere (NH) dominated solar flare activity during Solar Cycles 17 to 21, but that the southern hemisphere has dominated from Solar Cycle 22 to present.

Deep MOS Spectroscopy of NGC 1316 Globular Clusters
The giant elliptical galaxy NGC 1316 is the brightest galaxy in the Fornax cluster, and displays a number of morphological features that might be interpreted as an intermediate age merger remanent (∼3 Gyr).

We investigate the formation channels of the intracluster light (ICL) and the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) in clusters at z = 0. For this, we perform multi-resolution cosmological N -body simulations using the “galaxy replacement technique.” We study ...

The link between morphology and structure of brightest cluster galaxies: automatic identification of cDs [PDF]
We study a large sample of 625 low-redshift brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) and link their morphologies to their structural properties. We derive visual morphologies and find that ∼57 per cent of the BCGs are cD galaxies, ∼13 per cent are ellipticals ...

Summary Orchard fruits such as pear and apple are important for ensuring global food security and agricultural economy as they not only provide essential nutrients, but also support biodiversity and ecosystem services. Breeders, growers and plant researchers constantly study desirable tree morphological features and floral characteristics to ensure ...

The radial acceleration relation (RAR) represents a tight empirical relation between the inferred total and baryonic centripetal accelerations, g _tot = GM _tot (< r )/ r ^2 and g _bar = GM _bar (< r )/ r ^2 , observed in galaxies and galaxy clusters ...

The accretion histories of brightest cluster galaxies from their stellar population gradients [PDF]
We analyse the spatially-resolved stellar populations of 9 local (z 10 11:3 M ) from the ATLAS 3D survey (median [Z/H] = 0:04 0:07, [Z/H] = 0:19 0:1). However, massive early-type galaxies from ATLAS 3D have consistently old ages (median Age = 12:0 3:8 ...

The shapes of brightest cluster galaxies
The mean isophotal axis ratios are computed for a complete sample of 119 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in Abell clusters. The cumulative distribution function F(q) of axis ratios for the BCGs differs from F(q) for a sample of ordinary elliptical galaxies at only the P=0.14 probability level, as measured by a Kolmogorov Smirnov test.
