Environmental Gradients in Lizard Colouration
Environmental pressures shape animal colouration, facilitating adaptation to local conditions. However, the extent to which climatic gradients drive colour variation in a species across its distributional range remains unclear.

Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Evidence for coloration plasticity in the yellow‐bellied toad, Bombina variegata
Phenotypic adaptation in terms of background color matching to the local habitat is an important mechanism for survival in prey species. Thus, intraspecific variation in cryptic coloration is expected among localities with dissimilar habitat features (e ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

A Comparison Between Alkali Peroxide and Activated Peroxide Processes in Bleaching Hardwoods Chemi-mechanical Pulp [PDF]
Unbleached chemi-mechanical pulp of 85% pulp yield and produced from hornbeam, beech and populus woods respectively by 3:1:1 ratio, was used for peroxide bleaching. Two bleaching systems, alkali peroxide (conventional bleaching) and activated peroxide by

Perception of Brightness and Brightness Illusions in the Macaque Monkey [PDF]
Recent physiological studies show that neural responses correlated with the perception of brightness are found in cortical area V1 but not earlier in the visual pathway (Kayama et al., 1979; Reid and Shapley, 1989; Squatrito et al., 1990; Komatsu et al., 1996; Rossi et al., 1996; MacEvoy et al., 1998; Rossi and Paradiso, 1999; Hung et al., 2001 ...
