Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

TIR-MS: Thermal Infrared Mean-Shift for Robust Pedestrian Head Tracking in Dynamic Target and Background Variations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Thermal infrared (TIR) pedestrian tracking is one of the major issues in computer vision. Mean-shift is a powerful and versatile non-parametric iterative algorithm for finding local maxima in probability distributions. In existing infrared data, and mean-

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Measuring the brightness temperature distribution of extragalactic radio sources with space VLBI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We have used VSOP space very long baseline interferometry observations to measure the brightness temperature distribution of a well-defined sub-set of the Pearson-Readhead sample of extragalactic radio sources.

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Reexamination of the galaxy formation-regulated gas evolution model in groups and clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
As an alternative explanation of the entropy excess and the steepening of the X-ray luminosity-temperature relation in groups and clusters, the galaxy formation-regulated gas evolution (GG) model proposed recently by Bryan makes an attempt to incorporate

Constraining Microwave Brightness Temperatures by Radar Brightband Observations

open access: yesJournal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, 2003
Multichannel microwave sensors make it possible to construct physically based rainfall retrieval algorithms. In these schemes, errors arising from the inaccuracy of the physical modeling of the cloud system under observation have to be accounted for. The melting layer has recently been identified as a possible source of bias when stratiform events are ...

Trace Nickel Activated Biphasic Core‐CuOii/Shell‐CuOi Secondary Microspheres Enable Room Temperature Parts‐Per‐Trillion‐Level NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An idea of designing novel sensors is proposed by creating appropriate Schottky barriers and vacancies between isomorphous Core‐CuOii/ Shell‐CuOi secondary microspheres and enhancing catalytic and spill‐over effects, and electronegativity via spontaneous biphasic separation, self‐assembly, and trace‐Ni‐doping.

Influence of Atmospheric Slant Path on Geostationary Hyperspectral Infrared Sounder Radiance Simulations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Accurately simulating a geostationary hyperspectral infrared sounder is critical for quantitative applications. Traditional radiation simulations of such instruments often overlook the influence of slant observation geometry by using vertical profile ...

Effects of chromaticity difference from Planckian locus duv of lighting on tinted color of illumination and brightness in space (part 1): Experiment using a scale model with uniform luminance distribution

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2022
The purpose of this study was to identify the combined effects of illuminance, correlated color temperature, and chromaticity shift from the Planckian locus duv on the perception of the tinted color of illumination and spatial brightness.
