Cells Dynamically Adapt Their Nuclear Volumes and Proliferation Rates During Single to Multicellular Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

Tailorable Brillouin Light Scattering in Air-Slit Suspended Waveguide

open access: yesPhotonics
Silicon-based optical waveguides exhibit high Brillouin gain, enabling the realization of Brillouin lasers directly on silicon substrates. These lasers hold significant promise for applications such as tunable-frequency laser emission, ultrafast pulse ...

Density fluctuations in the intermediate glass-former glycerol: a Brillouin light scattering study

open access: yes, 2003
Brillouin scattering has been used to measure the dynamic structure factor of glycerol as a function of temperature from the high temperature liquid to the glassy state.

Balancing Effective Mass and Carrier Mobility via Ga‐Induced Multi‐Band Valley Engineering in GeTe Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ga doping drives simultaneous convergence of three valence bands and formation of a midgap band in Ge0.94Bi0.06Te, enhancing the Seebeck coefficient without sacrificing carrier mobility. Lattice vibration disorder and multi‐scale defect engineering suppress lattice thermal conductivity, delivering a ZT exceeding 2.1 and enabling efficient lead‐free ...

Synergistic Pyro‐Phototronics and Structural Anisotropy in CsAg2I3/GaN Heterostructures for High‐Performance Polarization‐Sensitive UV Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The development of polarization‐sensitive ultraviolet photodetectors is limited by poor heterojunction quality and low polarization sensitivity. This study integrates synthesized CsAg2I3 single crystals with intrinsic non‐centrosymmetry into van der Waals heterojunction devices, demonstrating pronounced pyro‐phototronic effect.

Quantifying Strain and Its Effect on Charge Transport in Ge/Si Core/Shell Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates strain engineering in Ge/Si core–shell nanowires (CS NWs) by tuning the Ge core‐Si shell dimensions. Polarization‐resolved µ‐Raman and geometrical phase analysis quantify the resulting strain. Electronic transport measurements demonstrate record hole mobilities up to 25 400 cm2/Vs, highlighting these Ge/Si CS NWs as a promising ...

The applicability of Brillouin scattering to flow field diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yes
To fill the void between turbulence theory and experiment; particularly in the flow fields consisting of monatomic gases, for example in wind tunnels, means of measuring fluctuating quantities are needed.
