Brillouin light scattering from nematic polymer solutions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1992
A multipass tandem Fabry–Perot interferometer was used to measure the Brillouin light scattering in nematic polymer solutions of poly-γ-benzyl glutamate (PBG). The longitudinal acoustic phonon frequency and linewidth were determined as a function of the angle between the phonon wave vector and the nematic director. We have observed an anisotropy of 22%

Ultrasonic enhanced Brillouin light scattering in water

Optics Communications, 2006
Abstract Brillouin light spectra in water was experimentally investigated by a scanning Fabry–Perot interferometer. The optical properties of the scattering media were modulated by a plane ultrasound wave. An enhancement up to 10 times of the Brillouin signal by modulation with the ultrasound wave has been seen clearly.

Brillouin Scattering Experiment under Strong Background Light

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1995
We constructed a new system for optical beating Brillouin spectroscopy designed especially for slightly opaque samples or samples with scatterers. The undesired effect of stray light was successfully eliminated by a new optical lock-in detection device, in which modulation of the polarization of light is employed instead of the current method of ...

Brillouin light scattering in CMR manganite films

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2002
Thin films of La 0.7 A 0.3 MnO 3 (A = Ce, Ca, and Sr) and La 0.55 Ho 0.15 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 manganites have been investigated by Brillouin light scattering at room temperature. The phonon spectra for the Ce-doped sample showed an interesting three-peak structure at frequency shifts of 11.4, 13.8 and 16.1 GHz, with negligible dispersion and in-plane ...

Brillouin light scattering study of magnetic dots

physica status solidi (c), 2004
Brillouin light scattering investigation of the thermally activated spin-waves in micrometer-size permalloy square dots shows evidence of a frequency discretization of the surface spin-wave mode which is due to the lateral confinement of the magnetic excitations. The observed frequencies are compared to those derived from the analytical expression in a

Brillouin light scattering on cobalt-chromium films

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1986
Brillouin light scattering has been used to observe high frequency thermal magnetic excitations in ion-beam sputtered Co-Cr thin films. The measurements were performed on 82 at. % Co samples, 100 A, 350 A and 750 A in thickness, sputtered on single crystal Si substrates. The Brillouin scattering signals from these Co-Cr films were quite strong.

Brillouin light scattering characterization of optical materials

Fiber Lasers and Glass Photonics: Materials through Applications II, 2020
We have carried out measurements of Brillouin Scattering Stimulation on an optical resonator fabricated in Magnesium Fluoride. This technique allow obtaining various peaks corresponding to transverse and longitudinal frequencies inside the material. It correspond to slow transverse frequencies, fast transverse frequencies and longitudinal frequencies ...

Brillouin Components in Light Scattered by Quartz

Nature, 1950
IT was first observed by Gross1 that, when the 4358-A. line of mercury scattered by quartz is examined with a 30-step echelon grating, the line is found to be split up into a doublet, each component being shifted from the centre of the line by 0.18 A. He reported later2 that the line is split up into six components.

Rayleigh-Brillouin Light Scattering in Supercooled Liquids

1995
Abstract A Rayleigh-Brillouin experiment on salol is interpreted by means of the mode coupling theory applied to the liquid-glass transition. Monte-Carlo computations of DID integrated intensity are used to discuss the assumptions made in recent depolarized light scattering experiments.
