Brillouin light scattering in biological systems

open access: yes, 2022
The past 20 years have seen new application of the physics of Brillouin light scattering to the fields of biology, bioengineering, and biomedicine. Mapping of the 3D micromechanical properties of biological systems with the focused beam of light holds ...

Rayleigh-Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy of air; experiment, predictive model and dimensionless scaling

open access: yesMolecular Physics, 2021
Spontaneous Rayleigh-Brillouin (RB) scattering experiments have been performed in air for pressures in the range 0.25–3 bar and temperatures in the range 273–333 K.

Brillouin light scattering in likso4

Solid State Communications, 1983
Abstract Brillouin shift for LIkSO 4 was measured as a function of temperature inthe range 300–363°K. Elastic stiffness coefficients C 11 , C 33 and C 66 were also evaluated in this range. A discontinuity of their values was observed at 333°K, suggesting thereby a structural phase transition.

Brillouin ultraviolet light scattering on vitreous silica

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2005
Abstract New experimental data on vitreous silica, collected in a previously unexplored frequency region between 60 and 120 GHz, are reported. The Brillouin ultraviolet light scattering technique has been used to measure the dynamic structure factor for two exchanged momenta, Q = 0.078 and 0.11 nm−1.

Helicity-Changing Brillouin Light Scattering by Magnons in a Ferromagnetic Crystal

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Brillouin light scattering in ferromagnetic materials usually involves one magnon and two photons and their total angular momentum is conserved. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the presence of a helicity-changing two-magnon Brillouin light scattering
