Dislocation interaction with a tilt low‐angle grain boundary in bi‐crystal SrTiO3

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
A low‐angle tilt grain boundary (GB) was fabricated in SrTiO3 to study the dislocation and GB interaction at mesoscale. Dislocations were generated using Brinell indentation. Dislocation etch pit method and TEM observations both confirm dislocation pileup, storage, and transmission across the GB.

Parametric Modeling of Cochlear Electrode Arrays Using Design of Experiments and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

open access: yesApplied Bionics and Biomechanics, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Cochlear implant (CI) electrode arrays must navigate the delicate, spiraling microanatomy of the human cochlea. Optimizing their intrinsic mechanical properties is crucial for ensuring smooth surgical insertion and preventing extracochlear buckling.

A comparison of nanoindentation cell wall hardness and Brinell wood hardness in jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.)

open access: yes, 2014
Nanoindentation is a powerful tool for hardness testing on a very small scale. Since the technique was first introduced for studying wood cell wall mechanics, it has been integrated as an important tool for measuring the modulus of elasticity and ...

Preparation and Performance of SBR/SiO2‐Modified Emulsified Asphalt Mixtures Incorporating Recycled Aggregates

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
To address the technical bottlenecks associated with the poor overall performance of emulsified asphalt mixtures incorporating high‐proportion (84 wt%) recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) aggregates, this study proposes a synergistic modification strategy using styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR) and nano‐silica (SiO2), coupled with the regulation of cement and

Modification with Melamine Formaldehyde and Melamine-Urea Formaldehyde Resin to Improve the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Wood

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Scots pine and white poplar were modified with melamine formaldehyde (MF) and melamine-urea formaldehyde (MUF) resins to improve their physical and mechanical properties. Impregnation was conducted at 4 bar pressure for 30 or 60 min, and the samples were

Comparison of Brinell and Vickers Hardness Tests on Dental Casting Gold Alloys

open access: yes, 1973
The relationship between Vickers and Brinell hardness numbers of dental casting gold alloys was found to be linear; the addition of 19 to the Brinell number approximated the Vickers number fairly well.
