Schematic representation of modes of microcrack nucleation, growth and temporary arrestment at different boundaries, with the criteria for crack propagation in three scenarios: (1) large notch, (2) defect/small sharp notch, and (3) long crack. This work revisits and integrates results on the fatigue behavior of advanced bainitic steels (in particular ...

Postbuild annealing systematically modifies the phase fractions and morphology of EB‐PBF processed Mo–9Si–8B. Quantitative microstructure–property correlations reveal how controlled phase evolution enhances high‐temperature compressive strength and creep resistance.

Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Laser Forming of Austenitic Stainless and Manganese Carbon Steels [PDF]
Laser forming has several advantages compared to the machining methods of workpieces. This method avoids sringback effect, thinning of the material in the processing zone. It can form brittle, tough, elastic material, sheets of considerable low thickness

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

The Breaking of Brittle Materials
A model shows that as the size of a brittle material grows, the probability that it will fracture from a single crack approaches 100%.

Statistical physics perspective of fracture in brittle and quasi-brittle materials [PDF]
We discuss the physics of fracture in terms of the statistical physics associated with the failure of elastic media under applied stresses in presence of quenched disorder. We show that the development and the propagation of fracture are largely determined by the strength of the disorder and the stress field around them.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...
