Microstrip antennas are inherently narrowband. The typical bandwidth of a microstrip antenna is around 4% to 7%. A considerable number of experimental approaches have been undertaken to develop microstrip antennas that have a broader impedance bandwidth than a single microstrip element achieves without external matching.

2008 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2008
A broadband planar antenna with stable radiation patterns is presented. It consists of a suspended radiator fed by a vertical feed through an n-shaped microstrip. The measured impedance bandwidth is 3.1-5.1 GHz for a return loss of |S11| < -10 dB, and an average gain of 7.7 dBi is achieved. There is no beam squinting across the operating frequency band.

Broadband traveling wave antennas
IRE International Convention Record, 2005The large class of travelling wave antennas includes many examples which are superficially quite different, such as the helical antenna, the dielectric antenna, the corrugated surface, and the long Yagi antenna. The essential similarity of these antennas is discussed, and it is shown that the pattern bandwidth is inherently large, and separable from ...

Broadband printed monopole antenna
2006 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2006A novel broadband printed monopole fed by microstrip line is proposed. The antenna operates over wide frequency band (from 2.4 to 6.8 GHz) with impedance close to 50 /spl Omega/ and ...

Broadband omnidirectional helmet antennas
2006 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2006In this paper a new class of helmet antennas with omnidirectional pattern has been developed. Its radiation performance is considerably superior to that of conventional resonant whip antennas for terrestrial field applications over a much wider bandwidth and with more stable connectivity regardless of the wearer's body movement and orientation.

Broadband slotted cone antenna
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1966A new UHF-VHF antenna has been designed that is electrically small and exhibits multioctave bandwidth properties. This electrical hybrid design features ruggedness, light weight, compactness, and low profile. Experimental results indicate that the Slotted Cone Antenna radiates primarily vertical polarization and, like the monopole, exhibits an ...

This thesis investigates a novel dual frequency range low profile antenna system containing two nested spiral antennas operating over 2 – 18 GHz and 30 – 40 GHz respectively. The exploration and development of a broadband microstrip spiral without cavity backing has been implemented in the range of 2 - 18 GHz.
