A Novel Gelatin Hydrogel‐Based Drug‐Delivery System Promotes Antimicrobial Efficacy in a Pyogenic Spondylodiscitis Rat Model

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Spondylodiscitis/spondylitis is an intractable disease requiring long‐term intravenous antibiotics administration. However, drug delivery is greatly restricted because of the avascular nature in the intervertebral disc, which not only delays recovery but increases antimicrobial resistance and osteomyelitis. The purpose of this study

“Single‐Cell Encapsulation of Lactiplantibacillus Plantarum Via Layer‐by‐Layer Technique for Enhanced Viability and Shelf Life: Insights on Multilayer Assembly on Bacteria”

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 26, Issue 9, September 2026.
Layer‐by‐Layer encapsulation of Lactobacillus plantarum C8 and improvement in probiotic viability under in vitro digestion and storage conditions. The schematic illustrates the sequential deposition of poly‐L‐lysine (PLL) and alginate (Alg) on LAB C8, forming nanoscale coatings.

Electrospun Janus Nanofibrous Mats as Multifunctional Fish Preservation Gaskets

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 9, September 2026.
Janus nanofibers were created using tri‐fluid electrospinning with a tri‐channel spinneret, with one side composed of ethylcellulose and TiO2and the other side containing sodium alginate and tea polyphenols. The Janus fibrous mats, used as food gaskets, extended the shelf life of packaged fish to 9 days through their synergistic effect.

Quaternary structures of Streptococcus pneumoniae nucleoside diphosphate kinase: From hexamers to supramolecular assemblies

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) is a key enzyme that controls the balance of nucleotide pools in all living organisms. Beyond this fundamental role, NDKs exert pleiotropic effects in many cellular processes, including cell development, signal transduction, differentiation, tumor metastasis, and gene expression. The quaternary structure

Laser‐Patterned Antibacterial Microgrids With Silver Nanoparticles for Autonomous Sterilization on Public Escalator Belts

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The past few decades have witnessed multiple outbreaks of pandemics. Hygiene in public facilities is one of the key factors in maintaining public health security. Escalator belts, as frequently touched by passengers, become a potential medium for spreading pathogens.

Trichoderma Mobilizes Phosphorus and Cobalt While Excluding Sodium in the Foliar Ionome of High‐Andean Grasses Enriched With Biochar

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
This graph shows how guinea pig manure biochar raises the pH in high‐Andean soils (4150 m). Although biochar improves soil quality, nutrient uptake depends on the microorganism: Trichoderma sp. alters the foliar ionome by increasing P and Co and excluding Na, while micronutrients maintain their homeostasis depending on the species. ABSTRACT Acidic high‐

Discriminating Between Living and Dead Bacteria With a Field‐Effect Transistor Based on Nano‐Channels

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 54, 25 September 2026.
Bacterial viability is determined in a complex environment with a field‐effect biological transistor with a limit of detection of a single bacterium. Living, antibiotic‐treated, thermally denatured, and inhibited E. coli generate distinct electrical signatures, enabling label‐free single‐cell detection and providing new opportunities for rapid ...

Serotyping and Seroprevalence Estimation of Pasteurellosis in Ovine and Caprine in Selected Districts of Afar Region, Ethiopia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Small ruminant pasteurellosis remains a major constraint to productivity in pastoral production systems despite routine vaccination with inactivated Pasteurella multocida biotype A. Serological analysis revealed a very high overall seroprevalence (97.61%) and the circulation of multiple serotypes, including Mannheimia haemolytica A1, A2, and A7 and P ...

Zein/Gum Arabic Nanoparticles for Cinnamaldehyde Delivery: Enhanced Antifungal Performance and Bread Shelf Life Extension

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Bread is highly susceptible to fungal spoilage, which limits its shelf life. The increasing interest in preservation strategies based on naturally derived antifungals is constrained by the instability of compounds such as cinnamaldehyde, the main component of cinnamon essential oil.
