The role of oxidation in wood degradation by brown-rot fungi

1992
Brown-rot fungi are suggested to degrade cellulose by oxidation with hydrogen radicalsformed eg. in the conversion of hydrogen peroxide in the Fenton type reactions. The stuctural changes in the holocellulose in wood induced by Fenton's reaction on wood components are very similar to those caused by brown-rot fungi.

Bioremediation of DDT contaminated soil using brown-rot fungi

International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, 2011
Abstract The ability of brown-rot fungi (BRF) to eliminate DDT in artificially and historically contaminated soil was investigated to determine whether the BRF would be suitable for the bioremediation of DDT in soil. Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fomitopsis pinicola and Daedalea dickinsii showed an ability to eliminate DDT in artificially contaminated ...

Differentiation of White- and Brown-Rot Fungi by an Oxidase Reaction

Nature, 1957
ALTHOUGH most wood-destroying fungi of the white- and brown-rot type may be differentiated by the Bavendamm test, which depends on the oxidative browning of tannic and gallic acid agar by fungi of the white-rot type, certain inconsistencies in this reaction have been noted by Davidson, Campbell and Blaisdell1.

Resistance of parenchyma cells in wood to degradation by brown rot fungi

Mycological Progress, 2003
Wood degradation by two basidiomycetes, Fomitopsis pinicola and Laetiporus sulphureus was studied in one conifer and four broadleaved trees: Picea abies (Norway spruce), Acer pseudoplatanus (sycamore), Betula pendula (birch), Quercus robur (common oak) and Robinia pseudoacacia (robinia).
