Epigenetic Clock in Bears: A Simple Cost‐Effective Blood DNA Methylation‐Based Age Estimation Method Applicable to Multiple Bear Species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Age is an essential factor to understand the life history and demographic parameters of wildlife. Previously, we established an age estimation method for brown bears based on blood DNA methylation level.

Ancestral polymorphisms and sex-biased migration shaped the demographic history of brown bears and polar bears.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Recent studies have reported discordant gene trees in the evolution of brown bears and polar bears. Genealogical histories are different among independent nuclear loci and between biparentally inherited autosomal DNA (aDNA) and matrilineal mitochondrial ...

Fluorescent Polymeric Nanofibers as Ratiometric Multiplexed Skin Sensors of pH and Oxygen

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent polymeric nanofibers and nanorods are produced as ratiometric sensors of two important physiological parameters: pH and oxygen. They operate by dual Forster resonance energy transfer from large number of energy donor dyes to limited number of two distinct energy acceptors, enabling simultaneous sensing of pH and oxygen.

Analyses of Brown Bear (Ursus arctos Linnaeus, 1758) activity in natural conditions and captivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hrvatska je dom mrkom medvjedu, najvećem europskom grabežljivcu. Naša netaknuta priroda omogućila je opstanak medvjeda u šumovitim planinskim područjima na Dinarskom gorju.

Hanbury Brown and Twiss Correlations of Cooper Pairs in Helical Liquids

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a Hanbury Brown and Twiss (HBT) experiment of Cooper pairs on the edge channels of quantum spin Hall insulators. The helical edge channels provide a well defined beam of Cooper pairs and perfect Andreev reflections from superconductors ...

Evolutionary history and palaeoecology of brown bear in North-East Siberia re-examined using ancient DNA and stable isotopes from skeletal remains

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Over 60% of the modern distribution range of brown bears falls within Russia, yet palaeoecological data from the region remain scarce. Complete modern Russian brown bear mitogenomes are abundant in the published literature, yet examples of their ancient ...
