The Brown Bear in Bulgaria [PDF]

open access: yesOryx, 1962
In the past, the brown bear was found in all the forested mountain regions of Bulgaria. This is known from written and oral evidence, and there are places with names including the word “bear” where no bears have been seen for a long time. Dietary plasticity and the importance of salmon to brown bear (Ursus arctos) body size and condition in a low Arctic ecosystem

open access: yesPolar Biology, 2020
Ecological flexibility within animal populations can allow for variation in resource use and foraging decisions. We estimated brown bear (Ursus arctos) diet composition in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Alaska from 2013 to 2015 to ...

Combining Three Peripheral Blood Biomarkers to Stratify Rheumatoid Arthritis‐Associated Interstitial Lung Disease Risk

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The purpose was to evaluate a biomarker score consisting of MUC5B rs35705950 promoter variant, plasma matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐7, and serum anti‐malondialdehyde‐acetaldehyde (anti‐MAA) antibody for RA‐associated interstitial lung disease risk stratification. Methods Using a multicenter cohort of US veterans with RA, we performed a cross‐

Denning of Brown Bears in Croatia

open access: yesBears: Their Biology and Management, 1997
Twentyeight dens of 15 different European brown bears (Ursus arctos) were located, monitored and measured. Ten of them were used by females with cubs, 9 by females without cubs, 5 by males, and 4 by bears of unknown category. Occasionally bears used more than one den in the same winter, i.e. 4 bears used 2 to 5 dens (mean = 3).
