Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) Pneumonia in Beef Calf Herds Despite Vaccination [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2001
The present report describes the clinical, pathological, serological and virological findings in calves from 2 larger Danish beef herds experiencing outbreaks of pneumonia.

Mucosal Immunization with Live Recombinant Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) and Recombinant BRSV Lacking the Envelope Glycoprotein G Protects against Challenge with Wild-Type BRSV [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2002
ABSTRACTRecombinant bovine respiratory syncytial virus (rBRSV) and an rBRSV deletion mutant lacking the G gene (rBRSVΔG) were characterized in calves with respect to replication competence, attenuation, and protective efficacy as live-attenuated BRSV vaccines. Both recombinant viruses were safe and induced protection against a BRSV challenge infection.

Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV): A review [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2000
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) infection is the major cause of respiratory disease in calves during the first year of life. The study of the virus has been difficult because of its lability and very poor growth in cell culture. However, during the last decade, the introduction of new immunological and biotechnological techniques has ...

Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) Infection Detected in Exhaled Breath Condensate of Dairy Calves by Near-Infrared Aquaphotomics

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is a major contributor to respiratory disease in cattle worldwide. Traditionally, BRSV infection is detected based on non-specific clinical signs, followed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT ...

Immunization with a mucosal, post-fusion F/G protein-based polyanhydride nanovaccine protects neonatal calves against BRSV infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is a leading cause of death in young children and there are no FDA approved vaccines. Bovine RSV (BRSV) is antigenically similar to HRSV, and the neonatal calf model is useful for evaluation of HRSV vaccines. Here,

Epidemiological Investigation and Phylogenetic Analysis of Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex in Northern China. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
First comprehensive epidemiological and phylogenetic study of bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) in northern China (2022–2024). Dominant viral pathogens (BVDV, BPIV‐3) show winter seasonality and co‐infections with Mycoplasma bovis. Chinese isolates share evolutionary links with global strains, highlighting cross‐regional pathogen transmission ...

Detection and Genomic Characterization of Novel Respiratory Viruses in US and Mexican Cattle Farms. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
Respiratory virus infections in cattle cause an estimated more than $1 billion in production losses and can threaten human health. During February 2024 to May 2025, we employed a One Health approach to surveil for respiratory viruses among cattle, farm workers, and environmental samples from 11 US and Mexican beef or dairy cattle farms.

BRSV-specific serum antibodies in naïve cows and in cows infected with BRSV four years earlier.

open access: yes, 2022
BRSV-neutralising antibodies (VN), BRSV-Pre F-specific IgG1 antibodies (Pre F) and BRSV-Post F-specific IgG1 antibodies (Post F), AM14-competing antibodies reactive to Pre F (AM14) and BRSV-specific IgG1 (BRSV lysate) 3 weeks before a BRSV (re)infection (
