Brush seal numerical simulation: Concepts and advances

open access: yes, 1994
The development of the brush seal is considered to be most promising among the advanced type seals that are presently in use in the high speed turbomachinery.

Accomplishing Ethics‐Work as a Generic Social Process

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
Existing systems of university research ethics are often criticized by those in the qualitative research tradition. A common thread is that ethics cannot be fully anticipated before the research begins, as is expected by most institutional review boards.

Mathematical modeling of brush seals

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 1995
A computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based model of brush seals has been developed and tested against other workers' experimental data. In the model, the brush is treated as an axisymmetric, anisotropic porous region with nonlinear resistance coefficients. The resistance coefficients are chosen through calibration against measurements.

Effects of geometry on brush seal pressure and flow fields - Part I: Front plate configurations

open access: yes, 2006
Pressure and flow fields lay at the basis of such common phenomena affecting brush seal performance as bristle flutter, blow-down, hang-up, hysteresis, pressure stiffening, wear, and leakage.

immunoHuMiX: A personalizable gut‐on‐chip model for unraveling human microbiome–immune interactions

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
The study introduces a personalized gut model that brings together human immune cells and intestinal cells to better mimic how the body interacts with microbes. This system successfully maintained both human cells and a 17‐strain probiotic community, showing consistent immune responses across different donors.

Brush seal temperature distribution analysis (conferenceObject)

open access: yes, 2005
50th ASME Turbo-Expo 2005 -- JUN 06-09, 2005 -- Reno, NVDogu, Yahya/0000-0003-0474-2899Brush seals are designed to survive transient rotor rubs. Inherent brush seal flexibility reduces frictional heat generation.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Design of electron beam welded joints between stainless steel and Co-based superalloy: Revealing an incomplete γ → ε transformation mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This study proposes a novel approach to electron beam welding of AISI 410L ferritic stainless steel and NS163 Co-based superalloy, exploring the mechanism of compositional influence on the γ → ε martensite transformation during rapid solidification ...

A reappraisal of the Middle to Later Stone Age prehistory of Morocco Réévaluer la préhistoire du Maroc, du Middle Stone Age au Later Stone Age

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Over the last 25 years, perceptions of the early prehistory of Northwest Africa have undergone radical changes due to new fieldwork projects and a corresponding growth in scientific interest in the region. Much of this work has been focused in Morocco, known for its extremely rich fossil and archaeological records in caves and rock shelters.
