Effects of Clearances on the Leakage Flow Characteristics of Two Kinds of Brush Seals and Referenced Labyrinth Seal

open access: yes, 2010
Numerical investigations of leakage flow fields of two kinds of brush seals with four sealing clearances were conducted in this paper. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and non-Darcian porous medium model solutions were applied as the numerical ...

Efficient Harvesting of Irregular and Low‐Frequency Mechanical Energy via Hybridized Electromagnetic‐Triboelectric Systems

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable electronics necessitates sustainable power sources to replace the limited electrochemical battery. While mechanical energy harvesting offers a promising solution, traditional harvesters face challenges of irregular and low−frequency environmental sources. This review presents the

A Numerical Study of the Sealing and Interstage Pressure Drop Characteristics of a Four-Tooth Three-Stage Brush Combination Seal

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Premature seal failure induced by the unevenness of interstage pressure distribution in multi-stage brush seals significantly compromises the sealing efficiency of Air-Turbo Rocket (ATR) engines operating under high-pressure (megapascal-level ...

Unique Tuft Test Facility Dramatically Reduces Brush Seal Development Costs

open access: yes, 1997
Brush seals have been incorporated in the latest turbine engines to reduce leakage and improve efficiency. However, the life of these seals is limited by wear.

Easily Accessible and Up‐Scalable Aliphatic Bis‐Formamides with Afterglow Luminescence: Photoluminescence Properties and Applications

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A bis formamide molecule was found to feature afterglow properties, in both crystalline powder state and in polyvinyl alcohol films. This was attributed to the intermolecular packing that allows H‐trapped emitting state and/or clustering‐triggered emission, which was intensified upon insertion of tetramethylbenzidine as a doping agent.

Effects of geometry on brush seal pressure and flow fields - Part II: Backing plate configurations

open access: yes, 2006
Brush seal dynamic behavior is strongly related to pressure and flow fields. Developments in brush seal design have led to geometric modifications to control flow field and consequent brush seal issues including blow-down, hang-up, and pressure ...

Recyclable Printed Liquid Metal Composite for Underwater Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 5, Issue 5, May 2025.
This work presents a multifunctional liquid metal (LM) microdroplet‐based composite with a custom‐designed block copolymer as the matrix, optimized for printing. The composite exhibits high conductivity, stretchability, durability in dry and aqueous environments, and recyclability of LM using green solvents. These properties highlight its potential for

A new tribological test for candidate brush seal materials evaluation

open access: yes, 1994
A new tribological test for candidate brush seal materials evaluation has been developed. The sliding contact between the brush seal wires and their mating counterface journal is simulated by testing a small tuft of wire against the outside diameter of a

A flexible self-adaptive seal concept for sealing performance enhancement by controlling the flow contraction effect

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal
Annular gas seals are critical components in turbomachines for restricting leakage and ensuring efficiency. Reducing seal clearance is the most direct method to minimize leakage.
