Aphid honeydew quality as a food source for parasitoids is maintained in Bt cotton. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Bt-transgenic cotton has proven to be highly efficient in controlling key lepidopteran pests. One concern with the deployment of Bt cotton varieties is the potential proliferation of non-target pests.

Effects of soil salinity on rhizosphere soil microbes in transgenic Bt cotton fields

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2017
With increased cultivation of transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton in the saline alkaline soil of China, assessments of transgenic crop biosafety have focused on the effects of soil salinity on rhizosphere microbes and Bt protein residues.

Multi‐Scale Bionic Structure Constructs Biomass Flame‐Retardant Thermal Insulation Foam Material

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by mussel adhesion and hierarchical brick‐and‐mortar architectures, a cellulose‐based biomimetic foam is constructed by anchoring bentonite nanosheets onto a polydopamine‐decorated cellulose nanofiber network. The resulting foam combines low thermal conductivity with intrinsic flame retardancy and full biodegradability, presenting a ...

Functional Diversity and Oleaginous Potential of Fungal Strains From Hawaiian Soil Ecosystems

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fungi represent an important but underexplored resource for microbial lipid production, including nutritionally valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hawaiian soils, shaped by volcanic parent materials and strong environmental gradients, provide a unique setting for discovering functionally diverse fungal strains with distinct metabolic traits.

Molecular Genetic Basis of Lab- and Field-Selected Bt Resistance in Pink Bollworm

open access: yesInsects, 2023
Transgenic crops producing insecticidal proteins from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) control some important insect pests. However, evolution of resistance by pests reduces the efficacy of Bt crops. Here we review resistance to Bt cotton in the

A Typology of Corporate Actions for a Nature‐Positive Future

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving the global goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss requires a step up in corporate action and accountability. This includes addressing indirect, diffuse or historical impacts on nature across the value chain—forming a complex landscape of potential actions for businesses as they develop their corporate nature strategy.

Bt-cotton and secondary pests

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biotechnology, 2008
Bt-cotton seed has been effective to control the damage of bollworm in Chinese cotton production since 1999, reducing the need for pesticides and increasing incomes of Chinese farmers. Field data collected in 2004 indicates that these benefits have been eroded by increasing the use of pesticides aimed to control secondary pests.
