Simulation of hydrodynamics in gas-solid bubbling fluidized bed with louver baffles in three dimensions

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2016
In this study, the flow characteristics of Geldart A particles in the bubbling fluidized bed with louver baffles were simulated by CFD method for the first time.

Stability of Bubbles in Fluidized Beds

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Fundamentals, 1974
A LINEARIZED STABILITY ANALYSIS OF THE UPPER SURFACE OF A BUBBLE IN A FLUIDIZED BED LEADS TO PREDICTIONS OF INITIAL GROWTH RATES AND MOST SENSITIVE WAVELENGTHS FOR DISTURBANCES OF THE INTERFACE.IT IS SHOWN THAT THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY IS PRIMARILY A FUNCTION OF THE EFFECTIVE KINEMATIC VISCOSITY OF THE DENSE PHASE, WHILE THE INTERSTITIAL FLUID ...

Bubbles in Fluidized Beds

Nature, 1962
GAS fluidized beds are characterized by ‘bubbles’ which rise through them, modifying the gas flow path and moving solid particles. Bubbles are largely responsible for solids mixing, for high bed to wall heat transfer-rates and for the pattern of gas/solids contacting, important in most chemical engineering applications of the technique.

Bifurcation analysis of bubble dynamics in fluidized beds

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2007
We use a low-dimensional, agent-based bubble model to study the changes in the global dynamics of fluidized beds in response to changes in the frequency of the rising bubbles. The computationally based bifurcation analysis shows that at low frequencies, the global dynamics is attracted towards a fixed point since the bubbles interact very little with ...

Bubble swarm rise velocity in fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering Science, 2016
Abstract New formulas are suggested for the swarm speed of cap-shaped gas bubbles collectively rising within a gas–solid fluidized bed. Their derivation stems from comparing the added mass of a single bubble and a swarm of bubbles: U B U 0 = C 0 C .

Fluidization characteristics of rice husk in a bubbling fluidized bed

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2010
AbstractAn investigation was carried out in a circulating fluidized bed to explore if rice husk could be fluidized without mixing it with any foreign solids. Experimental results indicate that bed cross‐section has an important influence on the fluidization characteristics of rice husk.
