A study on the behavior of bubbles and solids in bubbling fluidized beds
Powder Technology, 2000Abstract In present work, a novel bubble distribution model, based on the population balance of bubbles, is proposed incorporating with the Navier–Stokes equation for solid flow in order to predict the solid mixing and circulation as well as the bubble behavior in bubbling fluidized beds. This work is comprised of three sections: The first section is

Bubble dynamics in bubbling fluidized beds of ellipsoidal particles
AIChE Journal, 2019AbstractThis article presents a CFD‐DEM study on the effect of particle shape on bubble dynamics in bubbling fluidized beds. The particles used are ellipsoids, covering from disk‐type to cylinder‐type. The phenomena such as bubble coalescence and splitting are successfully generated, and the results are compared with literature, showing a good ...

Granular Temperature in Bubbling Fluidized Beds
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2008AbstractIn the CFD simulation of industrial‐scale bubbling fluidized beds, coarse grids are necessary due to limited computation resources, which creates a problem about how to characterize the effect of meso‐scale bubbling structures on the particulate phase stresses and inter‐phase interaction force.

Nonlinear Waves and the Origin of Bubbles in Fluidized Beds
1998Early experiments in the mid-1940s established two different regimes of behavior of fluidized systems. These are broadly classified into systems that exhibit massive phase segregation, leading to particle-free regions called ‘bubbles’, and those that do not.

From Bubbles to Clusters in Fluidized Beds
Physical Review Letters, 1998Clusterlike solutions are reported for volume-averaged equations of motion in fluidized gas-particle suspensions (i.e., fluidized beds). A connection between bubbles and clusters is established through bifurcation analysis and numerical continuation in the mean volume fraction of the suspension.

Expansion of a freely bubbling fluidized bed
Powder Technology, 1991Abstract The expansion of a freely bubbling fluidized bed is studied over a range of particle properties and gas velocities that applies to fluidized bed boilers. A bed expansion model is derived from a modified two-phase flow model. The results from the model are compared with measurements in both a cold two-dimensional bed and a 16 MW th fluidized

BUBBLE INTERACTION IN FLUIDIZED BEDS
1970In order to analyze the motion of interacting bubbles in a fluidized bed, it is postulated that the velocity of a bubble may be approximated by adding to its rise velocity in isolation the velocity which the continuous phase would have at the position of the nose if the bubble were absent.

Maldistribution detection in bubbling fluidized beds
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2015A severe maldistribution problem was induced with a half-covered gas distributor plate. Videos of the bed surface were recorded and analyzed to study how the boundary between maldistribution and stable fluidization is affected by the gas velocity and the bed aspect ratio.
