Development of Chitosan/Gelatin/Keratin Composite Containing Hydrocortisone Sodium Succinate as a Buccal Mucoadhesive Patch to Treat Desquamative Gingivitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of this research was to develop chitosan/gelatin/keratin composite containing hydrocortisone sodium succinate as a buccal mucoadhesive patch to treat desquamative gingivitis, which was fabricated through an environmental friendly process ...

Advanced Technologies for Oral Controlled Release: Cyclodextrins for oral controlled release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are used in oral pharmaceutical formulations, by means of inclusion complexes formation, with the following advantages for the drugs: (1) solubility, dissolution rate, stability and bioavailability enhancement; (2) to modify the drug ...

Quantum size effect in Pb(100) films: the role of symmetry and implication for film growth [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev B. 74, 113401 (2006), 2005
We show from density-functional calculations that Pb(100) thin films exhibit quantum size effect with a bilayer periodicity in film energies, film relaxations, and work functions, which originate from different symmetry of the stacking geometry of odd and even layer films.

Buccal films: A review of therapy possibilities, treatment plans and appropriate evaluation techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Due to apparent greater patient acceptance compared to buccal tablets and enormous therapeutic opportunities compared to traditional oral drug delivery methods, particularly for those who suffer from dysphagia, the potential of the mucoadhesive film ...

Functional morphology of the pharyngeal teeth of the ocean sunfish, Mola mola

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Many fish use a set of pharyngeal jaws in their throat to aid in prey capture and processing, particularly of large or complex prey. In this study—combining dissection, CT scanning, histology, and performance testing—we demonstrate a novel use of pharyngeal teeth in the ocean sunfish (Mola mola), a species for which pharyngeal jaw anatomy had ...

High-speed in vitro intensity diffraction tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We demonstrate a label-free, scan-free {\it intensity} diffraction tomography technique utilizing annular illumination (aIDT) to rapidly characterize large-volume 3D refractive index distributions in vitro. By optimally matching the illumination geometry to the microscope pupil, our technique reduces the data requirement by 60$\times$ to achieve high ...

SSR-PR: Single-shot Super-Resolution Phase Retrieval based two prior calibration tests [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We propose a novel approach and algorithm based on two preliminary tests of the optical system elements to enhance the super-resolved complex-valued imaging. The approach is developed for inverse phase imaging in a single-shot lensless optical setup. Imaging is based on wavefront modulation by a single binary phase mask.

In‐vitro puncture experiment using alligator teeth tracks the formation of dental microwear and its association with hardness of the diet

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract With the development of dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA), there has been an increasing application of DMTA for dietary estimation in extant and fossil reptiles, including dinosaurs. While numerous feeding experiments exist for herbivorous mammals, knowledge remains limited for carnivorous reptiles. This study aimed to qualitatively and

Particle size reduction to the nanometer range: a promising approach to improve buccal absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Poorly water-soluble drugs, such as phenylephrine, offer challenging problems for buccal drug delivery. In order to overcome these problems, particle size reduction (to the nanometer range) and cyclodextrin complexation were investigated for permeability

Retrospective analysis of the correlation between the facial biotype and the inclination of the upper canine cusp axis to the occlusal plane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Permanent maxillary canines are the second most frequently impacted teeth and the prevalence of this clinical condition is estimated to be 1-2% in the general population.
