Finite strip buckling and postbuckling analysis

1995
The finite strip method (FSM) is an effective procedure for the numerical analysis of single rectangular plates and of complicated prismatic plate structures. Figure 4.1 shows examples of such plates and plate structures, each modelled by a number of finite strips which run the whole length of the structure.

Buckling and postbuckling of stiff lamellae in a compliant matrix

Composites Science and Technology, 2014
Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations are performed to investigate the buckling and postbuckling behaviors of stiff lamellae embedded in a compliant matrix under uniaxial compression. First, the analytical solution is derived for the critical compressive strain and wrinkle wavelength of a stiff layer sandwiched between two different soft ...

Buckling and Postbuckling Analyses of Struts with Discrete Supports

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
Previous studies on the buckling of an elastic strut with discrete flexible transverse supports indicate that a sufficient support stiffness may be found such that the flexible supports would act as rigid supports for a hinged‐end strut. In the present work, a comprehensive study of the buckling and postbuckling behavior of both hinged‐end and fixed ...

Buckling and postbuckling behavior of steep compressible arches

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1973
Abstract The bifurcation buckling and postbuckling behavior of steep, compressible, circular arches is examined. The arches are loaded with a uniform constant directional pressure and may be either pinned or clamped. The development is based on Koiter's theory.

Contact buckling and postbuckling of thin rectangular plates

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 2001
A combined experimental/finite element effort is carried out to elucidate the post buckling response of unilaterally constrained plates under monotonically increasing edge thrust. Real time observations, together with a wide range of plate aspect ratio and a large load level facilitate deep physical insight into the general behavior of this class of ...

Buckling and Postbuckling of Imperfect Cylindrical Shells: A Review

Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1986
Thin-walled cylinders of various constructions are widely used in simple or complex structural configurations. The round cylinder is commonly found in tubing and piping, and in offshore platforms. Depending on their use, these cylinders are subjected (in service) to individual and combined application of external loads.

Initial Postbuckling With a Unique Buckling Mode

2013
Here, we consider problems that belong to the category of Chap. 18, namely problems with Linear Prebuckling, but take a broader view in that we establish a procedure for investigating the initial behavior after buckling—the Postbuckling Behavior.
