THE INFLUENCE OF PRUNUS NECROTIC VIRUS AND PLUM DWARF VIRUS ON FROST RESISTANCE OF SOUR CHERRY [VLIV INFEKCE PNRSV A PDV NA MRAZUODOLNOST VIŠNÍ] [PDF]

open access: yesVědecké Práce Ovocnářské
This article presents the results of testing the effect of virus infection on the frost resistance of sour cherry varieties of Ukrainian breeding. ‘Ksenia’ and ‘Boguslavka’ varieties were used.

Citizen Engineers: Leaders in Building a Sustainable World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
As with the “citizen soldiers” of World War II, the engineering industry must produce “citizen engineers” who will accept the leadership challenge necessary to deliver a combination of technical, economic, social, and environmental values to its ...

Dynamin recruitment by clathrin coats: a physical step? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Recent structural findings have shown that dynamin, a cytosol protein playing a key-role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis, inserts partly within the lipid bilayer and tends to self-assemble around lipid tubules. Taking into account these observations, we

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Reconstituting ring-rafts in bud-mimicking topography of model membranes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
During vesicular trafficking and release of enveloped viruses, the budding and fission processes dynamically remodel the donor cell membrane in a protein- or a lipid-mediated manner.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Aβ∗56 is a stable oligomer that impairs memory function in mice

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Amyloid-β (Aβ) oligomers consist of fibrillar and non-fibrillar soluble assemblies of the Aβ peptide. Aβ∗56 is a non-fibrillar Aβ assembly that is linked to memory deficits. Previous studies did not decipher specific forms of Aβ present in Aβ∗56.

Reproductive Compatibility Within and Among Spruce Budworm (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Spruce bud worm moths collected as larvae from two species of host trees in four populations were mated in single pairs in two years. In 1980 but not 1981, more of the intra-population matings than the inter-population matings were fertile.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
