Impact of insulation and building management systems on reducing energy consumption and Energy analysis of residential buildings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2020
Increasing energy consumption in the world raises concerns about future energy supplies. In addition, reducing energy consumption will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO2.

Defining Representative Building Energy Models

open access: yes, 2015
The energy need of buildings is strictly related to the local climate and to the construction characteristics (in particular the elements of the building envelope, the ratio between glazed and opaque facade, and orientation). In order to assess the energy performance of different building solutions characterising a large building stock, it can be ...

Energy, carbon and cost performance of building stocks : upgrade analysis, energy labelling and national policy development

open access: yes, 2009
The area of policy formulation for the energy and carbon performance of buildings is coming under increasing focus. A major challenge is to account for the large variation within building stocks relative to factors such as location, climate, age ...

The role of built environment energy efficiency in a sustainable UK energy economy

open access: yes, 2008
Energy efficiency in the built environment can make significant contributions to a sustainable energy economy. In order to achieve this, greater public awareness of the importance of energy efficiency is required.

Thermal modelling of the building and its HVAC system using Matlab/Simulink [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The aim of this paper is to develop a simplified building-HVAC system which could predict the temperature variation within the building and estimate the amount of energy required to get the comfort level using the Matlab/Simulink.

Multi-Agent-Based Model for the Urban Macro-Level Impact Factors of Building Energy Consumption on Different Types of Land

open access: yesLand, 2022
Urban researchers pay more and more attention to building energy consumption from different perspectives to obtain the results of urban overall energy conservation. The research at the micro level has yielded abundant accomplishments, but the macro-level

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
