Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Energym: A Building Model Library for Controller Benchmarking

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
We introduce the Python-based open-source library Energym, a building model library to test and benchmark building controllers. The incorporated building models are presented with a brief explanation of their function, location and technical equipment ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Comparison of a Solar Driven Absorption Chiller and Photovoltaic Compression Chiller Under Different Demand Profiles: Technological, Environmental and Economic Performance

open access: yesEnergies
HVAC systems are becoming increasingly important around the world due to the increasing need for climatization in recent years. While district heating systems have been used for a long time, district cooling systems tend to be something that is only ...

Building energy performance assessment for existing commercial buildings with heritage values [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
The building sector accounts for 19% of Australia's energy consumption and around 23% of the greenhouse gas emissions. In 2005, commercial buildings in Australia were responsible for 10% or 26 megatonnes (Mt) of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Reducing Building Energy Performance Gap: Integrating Agent-Based Modelling and Building Performance Simulation

open access: yesBuildings
The building energy performance gap (BEPG) remains a significant challenge, undermining the accuracy of energy simulations and complicating efforts to design energy-efficient buildings.

Building performance optimization of net zero-energy buildings

open access: yes, 2015
Building performance optimization (BPO) paired with building performance simulation (BPS) is a promising solution for evaluating many different design options and obtaining the optimal or near-optimal solution for a given objective or combination of objectives while complying with constraints.
