Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Temperature Reduction Potentials in the Heating Supply of an Unrenovated University Building

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Lowering the temperatures in heating systems is the key to decarbonizing the heat supply in the building sector, because it is a door opener to greater integration of renewable heat, the use of excess heat and to improve compatibility for heat pumps ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

ANALYSIS OF ENERGY-EFFICIENT HOUSE LAYOUT DESIGN IN TROPICAL CLIMATE

open access: yesDimensi: Journal of Architecture and Built Environment, 2021
Energy-efficient residential provision is an essential concern for the present and future city development. Currently, the residential buildings contribute approximately 37.5% to significant energy consumption and carbon emissions, which mainly used for ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Understanding shading through home-use experience, measurement and modelling

open access: yesBuildings & Cities
Insufficient application of the socio-technical influences on residential energy ‘optimisation’ exacerbates the energy performance gap. This is evident in the modelling of energy and thermal performance.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

An Iterative Methodology for Model Complexity Reduction in Residential Building Simulation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The present paper introduces an iterative methodology to progressively reduce building simulation model complexity with the aim of identifying potential trade-offs between computational requirements (i.e., model complexity) and energy estimation accuracy.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
