Astrocytic Phenotypic Switching in Posterior Piriform Cortex Orchestrates Bone Cancer Pain–Depression Comorbidity via Purinergic–Noradrenergic Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bone cancer pain and depression share a common origin: astrocytic A2‐to‐A1 transition in the posterior piriform cortex. This phenotypic shift disrupts the ATP–adenosine–A2AR–norepinephrine axis, simultaneously driving nociceptive and affective dysfunction.

Generalist predator Stratiolaelaps scimitus hampers establishment of the bulb scale mite predator Neoseiulus barkeri in Hippeastrum

open access: yes, 2011
In this study we investigate the hypothesis that presence of the generalistsoil-dwelling predatory mite Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Womersley)results in lower densities of the phytoseiid soil-dwelling predatorNeoseiulus barkeri Hughes in Hippeastrum ...

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Ripening of the Onion Bulb and Infection by Botrytis Species

open access: yes, 1945
THE first sign of normal ripening in the onion plant, it is supposed, consists of a local collapse at the neck, resulting in the leaf blades falling over on to the ground while several of them are still green and turgid; this can occur with plentiful ...

N‐Doping Activated Presodiation Enhances Sodium‐Ion Provision in Hard Carbon Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Introducing pyrrolic‐N sites enables efficient presodiation and stronger PF6− capture, thus pre ‐ forming a robust inorganic‐rich SEI layer in hard carbon anodes. ABSTRACT Hard carbon (HC) is considered the most promising anode material for commercial sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs), yet it still faces critical challenges such as low initial Coulombic ...

The size of Mandelbrot bulbs

open access: yesChaos, Solitons & Fractals: X, 2019
We provide an analytic estimate for the size of the bulbs adjoining the main cardioid of the Mandelbrot set. The bulbs are approximate circles, and are associated with the stability regions in the complex parameter μ-space of period- q orbits of the underlying map z → z 2 −μ.

The influence of environmental factors on growth and interactions between Embellisia allii and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae isolated from garlic

open access: yes, 2010
Embellisia allii results in the formation of a bulb canker and black soot on the surface of different alliums and it has been frequently detected on garlic bulbs together with the spoilage fungus, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp.

A Skull Bone Marrow‐to‐Brain Axis Links Osteoblastic Activity to Myeloid Cell Trafficking, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Cognition in Alzheimer's Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Alzheimer's disease–linked APP expression in bone‐forming cells drives skull bone marrow remodeling and alters its vascular connections to the brain. These changes disrupt immune cell trafficking, cerebral blood flow, and cognition. Targeting bone marrow macrophages restores brain function, highlighting a previously unrecognized
