Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...

Global Burden Related to Nitrous Oxide Exposure in Medical and Recreational Settings: A Systematic Review and Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The risk of adverse effects of nitrous oxide (N2O) exposure is insufficiently recognized despite its widespread use. These effects are mainly reported through case reports. We conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of

Two brothers with very late onset of muscle weakness in X-linked recessive spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy

open access: yesRinsho Shinkeigaku, 2009
Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA) is a motor neuron disease characterized by slowly progressive spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy associated with signs of androgen insensitivity including gynecomastia. This disease becomes prominent clinically in the fourth and fifth decades of life. Mutations of the androgen receptor (AR) gene associated with

Novel Vascular‐Adaptive Liquid Metal Microspheres Enable Visualized Arterial Embolization Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present drug‐loaded liquid metal microspheres (X‐MEN) as a novel agent for image‐guided arterial embolization. With inherent radiopacity and superior deformability, X‐MEN enables real‐time monitoring and conforms tightly to irregular vessels. This approach ensures precise, long‐lasting embolization without recanalization, addressing critical ...

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis Overlap: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The concurrence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and multiple sclerosis (MS) is extremely rare. We reported the case of a 33-year-old woman with a past history of paresthesias at the right hand, who developed progressive quadriparesis with muscular

Synergistic Se‐Doping and Accompanying S‐Vacancies Drive Lattice Distortion and p‐Band Modulation for Enhanced Sodium Storage in Sulfides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Se‐doping in sulfides facilitates the creation of S vacancies. The collaboration of Se‐doping and S vacancies not only induces lattice distortion to weaken the M─S bonds and lift the p‐band center for improved Na+ adsorption, but also increases the number of charge carriers for an improved electronic conductivity.

A case of brainstem encephalitis with acute neuropathy associated with prolonged chikungunya viraemia

open access: yesClinical Infection in Practice
A 66-year-old man presented to hospital in London, United Kingdom, with back pain and reduced mobility shortly after returning from Chandigarh, India. Examination revealed flaccid paralysis in his lower limbs with absent reflexes and an initially normal ...
