Photoaligned and photopatterned liquid crystal platforms provide programmable control of optical phase, polarization, and spin‐orbit interactions, enabling compact generation of structured light and complex wavefronts. This review highlights how tailored molecular orientations transform simple beams into designed optical fields, opening versatile ...

The Effect of Temperature on Recovery of Buoyancy by Microcystis [PDF]
Summary: Colonies of Microcystis in Abbots Pool, Avon, UK, were found to regulate their buoyancy according to light (photon flux density). The autumnal decline of the population was associated with an increase in the proportion of colonies that were non-buoyant, and with declining temperatures in the pond.

A new class of sulfur‐free, oxygen‐bridged dibenzofuran‐based polymers is developed for ultrahigh‐refractive‐index applications. The rigid π‐extended architecture and enhanced molecular polarizability enable exceptional optical performance, combining refractive indices up to 1.848 with high Abbe numbers and full visible transparency. This work offers a

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Numerical Study of High-Buoyancy Pollutant Dispersion in a Two-Dimensional Street Canyon
Simulating the dispersion of high-buoyancy pollutant is challenging because of the change in fluid density. A species transport (ST) model, which accounts for variable fluid density, was first validated by simulating light and heavy gas dispersion around
